No legal brain here but on first read it sounds as if Hastert was being blackmailed? Instead of reporting the incident to LEO, he paid off ‘Individual A.’

And feds went after Hastert instead of person doing the shakedown who probably got some sort of immunity to turn.

**SPECULATION ONLY**
Because of wording ‘past misconduct’ of Hastert to Individual A who has known Hastert most of his/her life, it sounds as if it was misconduct of a personal nature, not political.

Maybe something which happened while he was a teacher/coach. Ripe for imagination.

Mmmm. Stepping back I wonder if this and the FIFA charges signal that Lynch might be going after cases put on the back burner for one reason or another.

I almost hope that is the case because maybe there will be lots of indictments ready to roll? Makes me feel warm & fuzzy just thinking about it even if is a pipe dream. :)

I think you’re likely right. I guess the new rule is it’s not the thing you’re being blackmailed for, it’s how you structure the payment of the blackmail.

And, like you said, the actual blackmailer is likely being given a pass. Folks have to be super careful with the ‘RATS being in charge of the government “Justice” apparatus.

Had to do something to get Billary off of the front page and out of the sheeples news cycle and out of their minds.
