According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Hastert agreed to pay $3.5 million to a person identified only as Individual A, "in order to compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct against Individual A." ... Hastert served eight years as speaker, and just over 20 as a member of the House, representing a suburban Chicago district. He was a former high school teacher and wrestling coach.

I think I can guess what this is all about.

Of course it isn’t, but if it was up to me - any politician, cop, judge or DA or any other sworn public official would see many years breaking big rocks into little rocks if ever convicted of a crime while in office, or while employed in the public interest.

I would have zero tolerance for them as their unethical actions can undermine everything that is important as well as confidence in our government. Their politics should mean nothing.

It always amused me how people would think that they were safe so long as they stayed under the $10,000 threshold at which the bank needed to report the transaction to the government.

Bank tellers can actually be prosecuted and held criminally liable for not also reporting transactions under $10,000. This is called the SAR (Suspicious activity report) and yes, even if you withdraw multiple sizable transactions under the $10,000 limit, you will still be reported with the SAR and can be prosecuted for "structuring" and "evasion" - as well as the bank employee, if he/she does not submit the SAR in a timely manner.

Always knew Denny Hastert was a crook.

I ran his opponents campaign in 1994.

Does anyone know how Denny Hastert kept getting re-elected election after election in a disputed district?

He paid some low-level Democrat party grunt to run against him in the General Election. He used his own people to circulate petitions for his "opponent" to get them on the ballot and then had signs printed up for his opponent.

Denny's own staff would go out and put those signs up to make it appear Denny had competition.

As was the case in several elections, Denny's "opponent" magically had dirt thrown on him just before the election to make the opponent "unelectable." One year Denny's opponent was a known drunk who couldn't hold down a job, another year it was a school bus driver who hardly ever voted.

Not surprised Denny Hastert's a crook. Wonder what's going to happen to the Hastert Family Restaurant "White Fence Farm?" Wondering if the Fed's are going to look at that as a money laundering operation.

Hmmmmmmm.

There's A LOT of dirt on Denny Hastert. I'd given long ago that he was ever going to be caught so today for me was a pleasant surprise. Denny's a corrupt crook. Knew it all along.

Should I have to worry about taking ATM withdrawals of $400 a day (daily limit imposed by the bank)?

So, taking out one’s own money is a crime. Sure, he intentionally withdrew less than 10,000 a time to avoid having the bank report such transactions. And? Is this really a crime?

So we're back to the Martha Stewart crime, lying to federal officials. Tell me, is there a crime of a federal official lying to the public?

That says an awful lot about the creatures who rule this country. Fortunately, one of the architects of the reporting rules is bit by his own ‘compromise’ law. Enjoy.

Apparently the hush money is going to some guy he was associated with back in the days of when he was a HS Wrestling Coach. I am betting it was some kind of sex with young boys.

All Hastert needs to do is change his name to Clinton and he will walk away unscathed! After all comparing the money situation the Clintons are up by a couple hundred million.

He should have created a “FOUNDATION”. Put the money into the foundation and then put whoever he wanted to get the money on the board of directors. That seems to be the Clinton way.
