Four people were killed when a car exploded near a mosque in Saudi Arabias eastern city of Dammam, on Friday, the Saudi Press Agency reported, adding that militants failed in their bid to hit the mosque after secuirty officials foiled the attack.
The attack targetted worshippers in al-Anoud mosque during Friday prayers, a ministry spokesperson said, quoted by the Saudi state news agency SPA.
Security forces became suspicious of a car parked near the mosque which exploded as they walked towards it, killing four people and setting surrounding cars on fire, SPA said. One of those killed is suspected of being the driver, it added.
Residents circulated pictures of a badly disfigured body of a man believed to be the suicide bomber as well as pictures of large black clouds of smoke billowing over a parking lot outside the mosque.
It is the second bomb attack on a Saudi mosque in a week. On Friday, May 22, 21 people were killed as worshippers attended weekly prayers at a Shiite mosque in the eastern region of the country.
Somebody draw a picture of mad Mo?
The never ending desire to kill is the only reason needed.
That was a tricky get-away!
Chickens coming home to roost?
Rivalry between one group of mohammedans who wrap their turban one way and another group who wrap it another way?
Oh, sort of. It was Sunnis killing Shiites. Goes there weren’t any Sufis, Sikhs, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists or Yazhidis conveniently near at hand.
True. I was referring to the Saudis pushing Wahhabism over less extremist forms of the religion.
