Anarchy in Baltimore: Residents claim police have deserted them in wake of Freddie Gray riots as murder rate soars to highest in 15 years

Jennifer Jeffrey, 31, and son Kester 'Tony' Browne, 8, were killed Thursday They became the city's 37th and 38th homicide victims this month Residents have barricaded their doors in fear of ongoing violence Some have compared parts of the city to the Wild West Others have said virtually no police have been on the streets since riots Arrests are down almost 50 per cent on the same time last year Police claim they are being met with 'hostility' during confrontations

As one of the city's deadliest months comes to an end, terrified residents have compared parts of Baltimore to the Wild West.

In the wake of the Freddie Gray riots, families have barricaded themselves inside their homes, too afraid to leave, while those on the streets walk around wielding guns - because there are allegedly no police around to arrest them.

Arrested are down 50percent and homicides are at their highest level in 15 years. In the Western District, there have been more murders in the first five months of this year than in all of 2014.

Neighborhoods such as West Baltimore, which had seen heavy policing because of endemic drug and gang violence in recent years, have experienced a reversal, with citizens claiming they have been virtually abandoned.

But embattled law enforcement officials claim they are 'under siege' from criminals taking advantage of the unrest, while officers complain they are met with hostility while policing certain areas.

“Wild West? I’m sorry, the “wild west” was far more civilized than Baltimore.”

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

The Old West was quite civilized. Nothing like the cities then or now.

To see another American city trashed beyond repair, is bitter.

The place was an absolute s(h&i#t@hole) when I last visited, I think in 1968! I simply can't see how it could have gotten any worse.

The left has just created a compelling argument for the active use of the 2nd amendment in Maryland. CCW fans should get on this immediately and run it as far and as fast as it will go.
What a mess the left has created.

I agree. I wouldn’t be surprised to know that there is great planning on various management levels to send RevCom operatives to more than a few cities, and that these operatives are inculcating in young Blacks the taste for real violence.

Fithian will be there in the background, too. It’s her job. Someone pays for her time and expenses.

I don’t understand the straw dog and the extreme actions the cops are taking. No one asked for “no cops”.
The anger is all about unarmed blacks being killed by cops. Freddie Gray died in police custody. There were policies in place that cops were suppose to follow when they put him in the paddy wagon. They did not follow those policies. They were put into place because the City had to pay a big lawsuit about someone getting hurt in a paddy wagon. Yes he ran. Yes he had drugs. Yes he has been a thug and criminal for a good while. No, that does not give the cops the right not to follow policy. If he is in custody it is their responsibility to see that he is safe. The cops do not get to decide that it is ok for him to die.
Now, because a grand jury indicted six cops who are accused of not following policy, cops are not doing their jobs. We will show the city, they say. If the city does not go along with what the cops want,we will not do our jobs until we are allowed to do what ever we want to do to whoever we want to do it to.
Cops should be told in person that they had better do their jobs are lose them.
Cops are the servants of citizens, cops are not in charge.

Honestly, why do we need police in Baltimore when they have really really strict gun laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals?

I hope the black community of Baltimore is catching on; they can't have it both ways. As long as they want to play the snitches get stitches game, they better be prepared to let the cops do what they do however they do it or they work with the police and take their neighborhood back from the ferals. Recognition of the real problem is the first step.

“We have seen too many instances of what appears to be police officers interacting with individuals, primarily African-American, often poor, in ways that raise troubling questions. It comes up, it seems like, once a week now,” Obama said. He said it’s not new, but there’s new awareness as a result of cameras and social media.”

BARACK OBAMA

Well, there you go.

Thanks for the advice.

The police in Baltimore and around the Country are taking your advice and no longer ‘interacting’ with your supporters Mr. Obama!

So you believe the cops caused his death?

You believe everything you read in the newspapers and everything the state attorney said?

You think cops should jump in and try to arrest someone when 30 or 40 thugs surround him?

You’re giving southerners a bad name.

The problem isn’t that the cops have deserted them...its that they have no way to protect themselves.

Now, if you want to blame liberal cop unions for THAT outcome, go ahead.

Unions always try to keep outsiders from performing “their” work.
