We still use FORTRAN for some engineering classes.

Circa 1960, I took two computer courses - one required, the other an elective. The elective was FORTRAN. The required course? Analog computation. Which, truth to tell, turned out to be of use in my career.

A trillion-fold increase in the cost-effectiveness of digital computers later, of course, analog is now less useful.
