CRUZ or LOSE!

he most common critique of our 2016 Presidential Hopefuls comparison grid this week has been of our amnesty rating for Ted Cruz. The Texas Senator has a mixed history on the issue, but we've given Cruz our second best rating of "Very Good".
There's one thing that's crystal clear about Cruz's position on offering work permits to illegal aliens -- he passionately opposes Pres. Obama's illegal and unconstitutional amnesties.
Just this week, Cruz tweeted a response to a Hillary Clinton tweet that criticized a federal appellate court's decision to uphold the temporary injunction placed on Pres. Obama's 2014 executive amnesties. Cruz wrote, "Amnesty is wrong for America and for the rule of law. Especially when done by illegal executive fiat."
But it has been Cruz's actions in the Senate that provide the best evidence of his opposition to amnesties. Perhaps nobody has fought harder than Cruz to stop amnesties in the Senate over the last three years.
Last summer, Cruz introduced a bill that would have defunded Obama's 2012 executive amnesties and tried to attach it to a continuing resolution that funded the federal government for several months. Cruz even threatened to shut down the government over the issue. "I think we should use any and all means necessary to prevent the president from illegally granting amnesty."
When that CR was about to expire, setting up the massive funding debate at the end of 2014, Cruz insisted that the bill funding most of the government for the rest of FY2015 include a defund of Obama's amnesties. Cruz went as far as raising a point of order objection against the so-called "CRomnibus" bill in an effort to defund the amnesties.
But what has many of our activists concerned about Cruz is an amendment that he offered to the Gang of Eight's amnesty bill in 2013. The amendment would have granted work permits to most of the 11 million illegal aliens once the feds had successfully completed the biometric exit-entry system, built 700 miles of fencing consistent with the Secure Fence Act of 2006, doubled the number of Border Patrol agents, and quadrupled the number of technology resources along the Southwest border, including cameras and motion sensors.
The border security requirements were so lofty that many in the media characterized the amendment as a poison pill since it contained much more border security than most Congressional Democrats could stomach. He also offered another amendment that would have kept the work permits in place, but would have removed the "path to citizenship" for most of the 11 million.
"The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight," Sen. Cruz said.
Cruz has said on dozens of other occasions that he supports work permits for illegal aliens. So why the generous rating on our Presidential grade cards?
Our reasoning centers around a March 2015 MSNBC story, "Ted Cruz hasn't ruled out legal status for undocumented immigrants". A post on our Facebook page highlighting one of Cruz's earlier quotes expressing his support for amnesty prompted the story.
MSNBC was trying to catch Cruz in a flip-flop, but campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier best summarized his position.
"I think his main priority is dealing with the border security component and making sure that we know who is coming into the country and making sure that we have control over who is coming into the country and then we can deal with what to do with the people who are already here."
Most politicians, especially on the Republican side, answer the "amnesty" question from reporters with "we have to secure the border first".
But in Cruz's case, we know from his amendment exactly what he wants to do along the border -- 1) 700-miles of double-layered fencing, 2) massive increases in manpower and resources, 3) a full biometric entry-exit system.
Only after all three actions are in place, Frazier said, Cruz would "deal with what to do with the people who are already here". Notice, she doesn't say he'll automatically grant amnesty and dole out work permits. She simply says he'll consider it once all the improvements are in place.
In rating Ted Cruz, we've taken all of these actions into consideration. As Roy pointed out in his blog earlier this week, we expect Hopefuls to improve in certain categories as time goes on, and we allow them to improve. We believe that Cruz's actions in the Senate trying to stop Pres. Obama's unconstitutional amnesties combined with his most recent comments makes him Very Good on opposing work permits for illegal aliens.
Because of his past statements, we'll be watching Cruz very closely, as we will with all the other Hopefuls, to see if he's consistent on his position. His current rating on amnesty may be the most volatile of all the ratings of all the Hopefuls, but we think his initial rating is the right one.
Despite Cruz's VERY GOOD rating on amnesty, he earns an overall Worker-Protection Immigration Grade of only a "C". (Sadly, though, that C-Grade ties for third best grade among the 20 Hopefuls being graded.)

What are you talking about? If illegals who by law ought to be deported are instead given work permits and made legal residents here, that is amnesty.
And Operation Wetback did not include work permits. There was a separate bracero program initiated a decade earlier that sent short-term workers from Mexico to the US—but OW was always about apprehending and then deporting the illegals who were found in high priority (especially border) areas.
Which is what a "President Cruz" would do. Which of the midgets are you backing?
Ted Cruz is articulating a credible and very effective argument on immigration- for those who will just set politics aside, and hear the argument.
1. Pr. Reagan granted amnesty to 3M in exchange for border security; but Congress never lived up to its end of the bargain.
2. Therefore, before there can even be any discussion about the 12M, Congress must first perform on its pending promise and secure the border.
It’s a cogent and irrefutable argument. Dems and GOP ALL say they are for securing the border, the people want the border secure— so there’s absolute unanimity as to the issue.
Thus, the Cruz position is— let’s do what we all agreed to, and currently agree on— lock down the border. Once it’s locked tight, then we’ll talk about the 12M.
Back in the 1950s, Eisenhower did do it. Operation Wetback. And with a fraction of the current BP strength. IT was very successful, as once it started, many illegals self-deported. It could be done again, if the president had the will.
That's ok. The people with an agenda of seeing Cruz the last one standing will continue to volunteer and send the Cruz campaign real money.
The agitators are pretty much out of luck.

Maybe that is where we should start, get an honest count. People keep using that 8-11 or 11-12 million people for years. All while the nation has become infested with illegal aliens. Coulter says 25% of Mexico is now in the US. That seems likely when everywhere you go there crowds speaking Spanish. Crowds, not a scattering of people.
I hope it is not the impossibility of the issue that Santorum has highest rating yet is the most unelectable of all of the candidates. Give a choice of Sanders or Santorum, I bet Sanders would win. Personally, while I would not vote for Sanders, I wouldn't vote for Santorum if he were the only alternative.
Immigration is not the only issue but I do think it defines the single greatest challenge facing the US. It affects our identity as a nation, our exceptionalism. Those areas of the country taken over by Caribbean, Central, and South American immigrants--legal or not--are filthy, 3rd world h311 holes. They are anchors dragging down our country.
I like both Cruz and Walker. While I have given to Cruz, I think both are good candidates. Maybe Walker at the end of the day. There I said it. Cruz is Hispanic, so is my wife and kids. At the end of the day will he, like my wife, side with her heritage over America? Walker, no. He is pure American by comparison. Is that fair and is that what this might come down to?
Since Walker has been all over the board on immigration, who knows what he would actually do. Cruz will do what he says he will and he is the only one I believe will actually secure the border.
I, like some of the other posters, want to see deportation on a massive scale, beginning with those who have committed other crimes. So far, no candidates have supported that, but I believe if the American people would demand it, Cruz would instruct his Justice Dept. to enforce current immigration laws. The American public in large part agrees with deportation, but political correctness has kept us quiet.
It is a travesty that these laws have been ignored while our border has been ravaged without check.
Given that this is anecdotal, I’d like to offer this account:
In 2009, my daughter working for a nationally known company in their IT department was offered along with 835 others, a package.(Aside, over 500 accepted it...company was shocked).
It was an offer you couldn’t refuse, but she didn’t want to stop working. After 18 months of whatever work she could get, that is temporary, part time, substitute, whatever. She even took a job at retail at Macy’s. Bottom line the area in which we lived had NO JOBS for her.
She opened her resume to a wider location and got an offer from a state, four states away from us. it was a very good company, but she took a 15K decrease in pay. Almost immediately began receiving calls from head hunters. She bided her time and eventually accepted a job with a sizeable increase and a “on call” involved. That company was boring and disorganized and she was still getting calls about good jobs. She finally accepted a job that she likes and satisfies income, responsibilities and proximity.
All of this is to prove that there are some locations that have jobs aplenty and a shortage of American workers. What is a company to do. I believe in that circumstance it is certainly acceptable to look to other solutions. But NO AMNESTY. I feel this is Ted Cruz’s idea.
After over 20 years in IT I asked her today if there was ever a time that she witnessed an American specifically training a foreigner to replace him/her. She said she never saw anything like that.

If I read correctly, your daughter was bought out of job, likely replaced by H1B or worse. All you have to do is read the news around the country and you see IT company after IT company replacing US workers with foreign workers. The latter are cheaper and can be imported already educated and trained. An Indian getting $2-10 per hour in India is quite happy with $15-25 here. Companies like that instead of paying $25-50+ for Americans. Look at ADP recently in the news for replacing American workers. Even having them train their low paid replacements. If you talk with many IT workers you will find this is real and is happening everywhere. I now have over 30 years in IT since getting out of the Navy. There is no shortage of American workers for jobs, companies just need to pay American wages and benefits, invest in local workers, not replace them at sweatshop rates with Indians.

I only post these because it’s not cut and dried. Foreign contractors are so woven into American companies now that the competition can be fierce-and undercut American applicants. I have faced this myself.

The first link shows a lot of links that basically mentions the example of SCE replacing workers with H1-B workers, and then no other examples I could find.
The second link shows Disney doing the same thing, but Disney’s IT staff is unionized, and I am not shedding many tears over that.
The third link, like many of the links in your first link, talks about SCE, and then goes on to make the same accusations that you are making that you believe this is a wide-spread problem in the industry, but still no real proof that it is besides SCE and Disney.

No additional proof in your fifth link. Does not show any more instances of the industry abusing the H1-B process.
Once again, in your sixth link, there is no additional proof of American companies abusing the H1-B process.
Seventh link is to the SCE problem which has already been included in your first link.
Your eighth link is a real doozy as it does nothing to prove your point except that not enough Americans seem to be getting STEM based degrees so foreigners are filling their positions. If you can prove that the Universities are actually favoring foreigners over Americans, you might be able to add some evidence to your claim.

I didn’t post a list of companies.
I can say that if you walk to the other end of the building I work in, you can go a long way and never see anyone but a S. Asian.
If you are saying that American IT doesn’t in many instances prefer foreign, read Indian or Chinese, employees, you are mistaken. Sometimes, these people are treated terribly, too, while other times, men can go home for a month to get married and solidify the marriage.
And, as I posted, I have experience with this preference myself.
Then again, I am of the opinion that the big R&D money has left the country, too, so hard core science research, including tech, is in Asia now.
I was denied an ‘extra’ part-time university teaching job, even though I knew the principal prof and that person owed me, because, as I was told, nearly everyone the department hired was foreign-born.
Since my college days, I have known that both out-of-state and foreign tuition made for TAs an RAs that could barely speak English. This was the rule, not the exception. I attended a great big university, too. I have had touch with the situation periodically over 40 years. If anything, the situation is worse.
What is your issue with the existence of such preference?
Can you not drive to areas of a city someplace that can and might be known as Little India?
For interesting time spent, look at the numbers J1 and O1 student, specialist, e.g., foreign medical doctors visas- if you can find those numbers. Neither the J1 or the O1 visas are capped as strictly as H1Bs, although I am not certain about L1 or Chinese work visas.
Note that many of the people for various of these visas are pre-identified as those that companies want to hire and so will bring over. It’s a done deal from jump, 3-day notice to others or not.

“I’m pro-Dream Act, I’m pro the Dream Act. My parents were immigrants to this country,” he said. “What are we going to do? Listen, I’m sure a lot of my parents’ generation …..snuck into the ship and they came into the country.
“So – people will do anything to leave massacres and to leave the economic conditions – they can’t put food on their own table.
“It would be inhumane to send those people back , to send 12 million people out of this country to disrupt a whole potpourri of family issues” over what happens to the children.
“I mean it’s all ridiculous. So we’ve got to find a way, find a route for those people to get legal citizenship,” he said.
