A Chinese admiral said on Sunday that Beijing could set up an air defense zone above disputed areas of the South China Sea if it felt it was facing a large enough threat, according to Chinese news media.
Adm. Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of staff of the People’s Liberation Army, told a regional security forum in Singapore that China had not said it would defintely create a so-called air defense identification zone, but that any decision would be based on an aerial threat assessment and the general security situation. He also said other nations should not overemphasize the issue.

Bonus Step: Send in a fishing fleet. Warn off fishing fleets of other nations.
Who will stop the Chinese from doing all that? Answer: No one.
Step 4. Keep filling until it reaches the Philippines.
Step 5. Claim the Philippines as Chinese soil.
This actually sounds like the Chinese are trying to walk back some of the latest threatening noises made recently.
People in Asia are getting very nervous.

How things are going to play out under Obama are very easy to see, if you wish to.
China has 18 months left to make it’s control of the Spratley’s “De Facto”.
We must continue Freedom of Navigation exercises throughout the claimed territories.
With intimidating, modern, armed platforms of all sorts.
Looking at the map, I don’t see how China can claim the Spratleys. It just seems too far away.
