Later
Never knew Midway had mountains but there they are at the 7:42 mark.
The Japanese record of the events is interesting. They made sure to document the moving of the emperor’s picture when abandoning ship.
There was a time when God truly favored a nation that served him.
Thank you for posting this.
I don’t think I have seen that one. The later movie was pretty good.
I have always liked Charlton Heston but for some reason did not like his character in “Midway”.
Highest point on the island is about 40 ft. It does have an interesting geographic history, being both a volcanic island and a coral atoll. It was originally a volcanic island about the size of Lana’i. The weight of the island depressed the seabed to the point that it sunk below the surface, and a coral atoll was formed around the crater.

It uses some of the same footage but memorializes the flight crews. It is a very emotion film when you realize the sacrifice the Devestator pilots made
Captain Garth (Henry Fonda): How much can you decipher?
Commander Rochefort (Hal Holbrook): Fifteen percent.
Captain Garth: Really decipher?
Commander Rochefort: Ten percent.
Captain Garth: That's one word in ten, Joe! You're guessing!
Commander Rochefort: We like to call it "analysis."
Best damn line of the movie.

Just watched it. Interesting to see them introduce John “Jimmy” Thatch, inventor of the “Thatch Weave” that got it’s first combat test at Midway.
