Pardon ignorance as I never served, but is this normally a one-time opportunity...if you don’t make it the first time there is no second chance?

You can re-apply. Happens in all sorts of special ops training. Just don’t know tho if you don’t make it by the 3rd time is your time up with re-applying.

I believe it usually depends on why you didn't make it the first time. I've heard of SEALs and other special forces candidates who might've been injured during training--but were allowed to return.

This might be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who can't complete a certain evolution by their branches' standards, or who choose to quit and leave the first time are not usually invited back for a second try.
