JERUSALEM—A dramatic Russian pullback from support of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria was reported Sunday by a prominent Arabic-language newspaper that said that some 100 senior Russian diplomatic and technical officials stationed in Damascus were flown back to Moscow last week with their families.

Asharq Al-Awsat reported that a shift in Russia’s policy became evident at a recent high-level international meeting of security officials held in a European city. The unpublicized meeting was held to discuss the threat of terrorist groups to international security.

The head of the Russian delegation, asked how Moscow viewed the possibility of a Syria “after Assad,” said that “what concerns Russia is to safeguard its strategic interests and secure the future of minorities” in Syria and to ensure that the country remains united. Upon hearing his statement, some delegates left the room to report this apparent retreat to their superiors. Until now, Russia has used its veto on the United Nations Security Council to block any action against the Assad regime.

I guess Obama did in fact have some flexibility. Russia is now building a nuke plant in Iran and in exchange Obama gets to let ISIS take over Syria.

Good deal. /sarc

Whoa. If the Kremlin is turning their backs on Assad, he’s cooked.

I can see Ivan bailing out of Damascus since it’s rapidly turning into a trash heap. But we’ll know the Russians are gone if they abandon the naval base they’ve been renting there for quite some time. I don’t see that tho. I would expect Pootin to put out the word to everybody in the ‘hood that he will defend that base and he expects the long term lease to be honored by whoever claims to be running Syria. But he has the Crimea back now so either way he still has a warm water port.

Not until he secures eastern Ukraine. Crimea has no land connection to Russia.

Lebanon is in play now. Too bad U.S policy is geared toward immediate gratification.

Iran and Isis for that matter need to kept out of the Mediterranean Sea.

The massacre of all Alawite men and the subsequent rape and slavery of every last Alawite female is on Obama’s head.

ISIS is going to grab Syria and Iraq

...and Jordan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

Then, the NWO gets what it lusts for - World War 3. And our kids get to fight it to protect the One-World government.

Imagine how surprised ISIS will be when their benefactors in the US shadow government suddenly turn on them.

Expect to see the Russians rent Greek naval bases.

The Russian advisers are needed at home to quell a mutiny by Russian troops ordered to go to the Ukraine. Things are tough all over.
