The officer was wrong to try and force the person to leave, but you don’t touch an officer if you don’t want to get shot.

Can't have it both ways - if the cop gets to murder whomever touches him under any conditions, then you can't say he was wrong to try to force the person to leave. Because if he tried to force the person to leave, and the force, the duress, he used against a free human being made that free human being believe he had to touch the cop to get him to stop using that force, then, because at that that moment that person was not longer a free human being, but deserving of immediate, summary execution under any and all conditions for touching his holiness the cop, it is impossible - utterly, completely impossible - for that cop to be wrong. The right to shoot somebody dead and be protected by the law in doing so, means the law says you are not wrong. So as cops can kill anyone dead at any time for making them feel afraid even if they are oppressing people, even if they are touching people, especially if someone touches them back, then therefore, under the law, cops are never wrong. Never. Wrong. By Law. So save your life and the life of a loved one by getting that through your head - because that is the actual law in America. That is the argument the cops lawyers make when they win - and they win every time. Cops can kill you whenever they want. Period. End of discussion. And the fact that they would want to kill you means that you had it coming - or they wouldn't want to kill you. That's the law, that's the argument their lawyers make for them, and that's the argument the Courts accept as valid. And thinking otherwise is resisting arrest.

Thanks moonman62, unfortunately your correct. It is human nature to be slow to change a mind IF an initial judgment is made. I’m told psychologists call this a human’s need for consistency. We get lazy and don’t go through the process every time - we just do like we did before. Once we “decide” we have ownership in the position.

Actually, one of the unspoken rules of Free Republic from the beginning was to vigorously advance and defend a position, but be intellectually honest enough to fess up when your position is shown to be wrong.

I once posted a retraction thread on the Ron Brown plane crash, many many years ago, when my position clearly became untenable. I had invested heavily in my position, but I had to recognize that I was incorrect in some of the things that I posted.

And so I retracted them.

"Prosecutor: “Do you take any responsibility now that the men have turned up drowned two days later?”"

Offcier: Yes sir, I should have shot them before they drowned.

“Since the moron trooper did not understand he was dealing with non-criminal members of the public who were under great stress, he should be fired.”

...fired, and charged with murder...

Clapping at him like you are calling a dog is one way to enrage a Free man.

he should be fired.

Don't know about this incident, they seem to be sitting on the information. A best friend was a copper, long ago,
Times have changed.

Recall the young former Marine, murdered by a swat team. Arizona maybe?
Working long hours in a mine, and they murdered him.

For that swat team; an eye for an eye, I say.

After watching the video, I’d say it was more than a shove. According to the officer giving the briefing, the officer was knocked to the ground, and a struggle ensued.
****************************************************************************************************
I’m still awaiting ALL of the video from BOTH troopers’ cars. What you (and the rest of us) watched was a snippet of the video. Why don’t they release ALL the video?

In Oklahoma, the primary purpose of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is (surprise) patrolling roads and highways. Barricading flooded roads is one thing they do. Also, probably, these people's offence, Oklahoma Statute 47:11§11-103:
No person shall willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer invested by law with authority to direct, control or regulate traffic.

The cited code links to case law, if interested.

====================

Tough break that these two brothers didn't get the double-secret memo where the penalty for violation of this statute went from a misdemeanor & a $50 ticket to a capital offense, with no trial, and immediate execution of sentence...

I noticed that also from the “jacked up” trooper—he was pissed. I want to see the entire video (from BOTH troopers’ cars from the time each arrived) to better understand what transpired.

Pima County officials claim that the settlement does not imply wrongdoing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jose_Guerena_shooting

A video of the raid shows roughly 38 seconds expired from the time the police briefly sounded a siren upon pulling into Guerena’s driveway until they shot him.[8] At this point the five person team fired at least 71 rounds at Guerena in less than seven seconds, who died after being hit 22 times.[9][10]
Guerena’s wife called 911 to request medical assistance for her husband shortly after the shooting. Paramedics, however, were instructed to hold back. Guerena was denied attention, for about one hour, until the team declared the “area secured”. Ambulance crews were then notified they were no longer needed, one hour and fourteen minutes after Guerena’s wife’s call to 911.[9][11]

The lawyer for the officers, however, said[citation needed] that the lawsuit is only to cause more “hysteria” and the amount is excessive since the officers had already been cleared of wrongdoing

What did the full video from the second patrol car show?

From the news conference:

"The troopers clearly tried to de-escalate this [by escalating it]"... LOL, bitterly!

“What did the full video from the second patrol car show?”
********************************************************************************************
What they showed was a snippet (their wording for it) of the video from ONE patrol car. They didn’t say whether it was from the 1st arriving or 2nd arriving patrol car.

I’m always suspicious (for BOTH “sides” of an issue) when only selected material is released. They need to release it all or, if not, explain why the hell they aren’t releasing it all. The trooper on the left in the video snippet didn’t get all worked up in one second; he was jacked up from the beginning of the video. Was he angry because the flooded motorists (you know, the ones he was responding to in an assistance call) didn’t instantly offer absolute obedience to his commands?

Once again, you are not as smart as we had hoped you would be. The Trooper could not allow the perp to wrestle away his duty weapon and shoot him. It was a righteous shoot.
