Yes, thanks. You had previously posted that you opposed their "ideology" that they attempted to enact through legislation. The only ideological issues I am aware of them taking a stance on are pro-life and against gay "marriage."

I am not very familiar with Gothard but looked him up after you mentioned the name. The highly controlling and domineering leader, twisted biblical references for brainwashing, rape and forced marriage of the girls is something we’ve seen time and again, lately with Warren Jeffs. Also key is keeping the young boys back so that the sick old guys can soil the young girls.

Are you saying that the Duggar’s are into that degree of degradation? I am asking sincerely as I do not know much about Gothard or the Duggar’s other than what you see. I heard the interview and could easily see some disturbing naivete or cluelessness about sexual growth and what their son was screaming out about.

The whole repressed lifestyle I think is at the core of Josh’s pent up sexual tensions and explosion. He was like a pot of boiling water where the heat got too hot and the lid just wouldn’t stay down. Dad and Mom were no help to him until they realized he was at the verge of very serious felonies. Really a sad situation. I don’t wish to judge them as I am an imperfect Catholic myself. I just don’t relate at all to the manner they apply their beliefs in their lives and how they raised their children.

I just can't get my head around how so many people think it's OK to “stone” these people. How can people on this forum of all places not see how the Duggars are being destroyed for a political agenda fully supported by the homo loving media is beyond me!

"Well that is certain.

Main stream Protestants are more and more OK with contraception, abortion, homosexuality, homosexual marriage, divorce and remarriage, and a whole slew of activities that less than 100 years ago where considered serious sins by every Protestant denomination. Now if you go to a Protestant Church that doesn’t have an active gay minister who is overseen by a lesbian bishop, you are the weirdo."

Nice try, but my friend said "mainstream", not "mainline."

It's a disgrace that so many Protestants have caved in to those issues, true...and just as disgraceful for the many Catholics who have done so.p> "ourse if you are a main stream Protestant and actually attend a church more than twice a year or even worse once a month you are considered an extreme religious nut case by a majority of other members of your church. Probably by the pastor as well."

See above.

"ng large families, holding worship services in your home, praying at home as a family and keeping a close knit family was standard operating for most people, particularly Americans, as little as fifty years ago."

None of that has anything to do with a teenager feeling up his sisters--repeatedly.

It's entirely possible for a conservative evangelical family to have a home church and be modest while not following bizarre cultic rules of covering up from neck to feet, etc. Let's not mistake the Duggars for plain conservative Christians.

"or being in a cult. Possibly, but is that so terrible?"

Seriously?

I'll just point you to the Duggars's situation and ask you how it seems to have turned out for them. They're so repressive that the men can't even look at a woman...sexual issues seem to pervade their cult, even to the cult leader having to step down for perversion.

Then, of course, there's the Duggar parents' fetish for playing, "Look what we can do because we're married" to the teenaged kids, even to the point of the dad grinding into the mom's rear.

Yeah...those modest Duggars. They and their cult are paragons, all right.

The Duggars are the poster children for Gothard.

Repression didn’t make Josh crave a 5yr old girl anymore than ‘if they’d only let them marry!’ caused the issues in the Catholic church.

If they were in charge and able, I suspect they would enact much much more.

That’s the document the Duggars would have used to ‘handle’ Josh’s problem.

Your comparison between Gothard and Warren Jeffs is very apt.

To clarify, no...I don’t believe the Duggars are into that kind of thing. But there are signs of issues with sex in the family situation.

Agree with you about the severe repression. Josh was taught that he couldn’t even look at a woman, and Michelle Duggar said she regretted the immodesty of kissing her husband before they got married. Like you, I’m a sinner, but there’s nothing normal in any of that.

They better. They have lots of money to earn so they can get the payments made.

They well know what they did was peddle private, sensitive information procured illegally and would open themselves up to a serious case. They hope to stand on the idea that they are journalists and the family has a public persona. However, we are talking about Juvenile records here. A very different can of legal worms.

Ain't gonna work and they know it. They will take the hit and pay it, because in the end it will be good business and increase their brand.

Biggest loser should be the Sheriff. The old lesbo has opened herself up to a law suite that can actually be forced on her personally along with her employers, the county. They will certainly pay out big. She should as well. That type of professional malfeasance should eliminate her pension and open her up to possible legal charges in her own right. One can only hope.

Exactly. But these can’t be Christians commenting with all this hatred on the Duggar threads. So that makes it a little easier to stomach their vile they are spewing. Until one knows the grace of God through a personal relationship with Him, it’s futile to try to even explain it.

So....since one of their kids sinned, they should have not sought out any outlet to be a ministry?

Thank you, Cath. Very interesting as I now see that the 80 year old Gothard was forced out last year for hitting on the young girls. I remember hearing about the Jeffs trial where his gofers would instruct these poor little girls who were about to be raped into a “marriage” to show him love and not hold back when he took them. Horrific.

Michelle Duggar reminds me of those women who are holed up in these communes and don’t learn anything about the outside world even when fullly grown. You are right that her regret over kissing before marriage is beyond odd. Very naive woman married to a very programmed man.

Well obvious to me this is a media fiasco with an agenda perhaps. I haven’t followed this close enough to distinguish enough of the matter...but again any time one involves themselves in realty type programs are leaving themselves wide open, and their families, for all sorts of scrutiny and you can be sure any in the background of their life will cease an opportunity if they can get it..

I bet the Duggars are really bummed that you think kissing before marriage is odd.

Michelle was a bit of a wild child when she was younger. Rumor has it anyway.

I couldn’t care less what they think. If you think it’s normal not to kiss before marriage that is entirely your business. I do indeed find it very odd.

Michelle is a very pretty woman. Her appearance at least to me is that of a young, naive-looking girl. I admire that for someone with so many, many children she still has a very young look to her. When I hear her speak it is hard for me to imagine she may have been a wild child as she doesn’t sound very ‘worldly’, but I have no way of knowing.
