Flanked By Navy SEALS, Rick Perry Will Announce He's Running For President Today

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry will officially announce his presidential plans today from Addison, Texas flanked by an impressive group of special operations veterans. Perry is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Check out the list:

Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Paul Craig
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL JJ Jones
Taya Kyle, widow of Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. history and author of American Sniper
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, author of Lone Survivor
Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell
Retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain Dan Moran
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Pete Scobell
Retired U.S. Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor Recipient Mike Thornton

New York Times Bestselling author Brad Thor will also be at the announcement along with Melanie Luttrell, wife of Marcus Luttrell.

Late last week Taya Kyle, the widow of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, sent out an email in support of Perry for RickPac detailing her personal relationship with the governor and his wife. She will also be in attendance today.

"One of the greatest things my husband, Chris Kyle, ever did was move our family to Texas. Even though he is gone, this state that shaped his patriotism, integrity and loving spirit reminds us of him at every turn. I tend to keep my political opinions to myself—the only candidate I ever endorsed was in a race for county sheriff—but this is different. On Thursday June 4th, I’ll be in Addison, Texas, where I’ll proudly stand with one of the great leaders this state and country have ever produced: Rick Perry," Kyle wrote. "I got to know Rick and Anita Perry outside of the public eye, where I’ve had an up-close view of their humility and commitment to doing the right thing for people regardless of who gets the credit. Believe me, they are a breath of fresh air in a political system full of people playing games and twisting the truth. My husband may have been in the military, but no one tells me which leader to follow. Instead, I look beyond the sound bites and even minor disagreements to find who has the economic TRACK RECORD and the CHARACTER it takes to make tough choices in the face of criticism. That’s why I’ll be there in person as Rick and Anita Perry discuss their future and his vision for America. Please join me and patriots like Marcus & Morgan Luttrell as we stand with our friend, Gov. Rick Perry."

The Perry for President website is already live. Perry ran in the GOP primary during the 2012 race and joins a crowded field of contenders. Perry was the governor of Texas for 14 years. He will announce at 12:30 et.

Should have Steve Schmidt and Henry Barbour standing beside him instead.

I hope I can watch it streaming to honor the SEALs, but anyone else pales in comparison.

I agree that he is better suited for a VP, we’ll see what happens it’s going to be a long race and I hope Cruz can pull this out.

“This group flanking Gov. Perry should be flanking the other Texan already in the race, Senator Cruz.”

Except Gov Perry actually took Marcus Luttrell and his wife in when Marcus didn’t have a place to live upon leaving the Navy — You didn’t hear about it because Gov Perry respected the Luttrell’s privacy.

But there is your connection - In case you were wondering.

I flat don’t get it.

Ted Cruz remains the only true Conservative in this race. I will be voting for Ted Cruz or nobody at all.

~~Cruz, OR LOSE~~

Cruz and Walker are pipe dreams now. Perry makes candidate number 10. That means someone only needs 10.1% of the vote to win the primary. How hard do you think it will be to manipulate 10% of the vote? Not hard at all. This is exactly how the dims and rinos want it. Get ready for Jebby!

Slightly off topic, but is Morgan Luttrell still on active duty? I thought he had retired as well.

Well I like Rick Perry. I was ready to support him in 2012. I think he has too high of a hill to climb this time around but if he manages to get the nomination I have no problem voting for him. I doubt it will happen though.

“How important is veteran status for a candidate in these last days for those on Free Republic?”

Good question.

Not as easy to answer though, because not all veterans are the same.

Some veteran’s come home and act like John Kerry and some veterans are like Allen West. Both are veteran’s, both are men, albeit one 100% more manly than the other but not all veterans look at the world and world problems the same way, I prefer the ones that view those problems like former Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush — “Peace through strength — Project power forward.” Never show weakness or vulnerably in the eyes of your enemies.

So, does being a veteran automatically mean you are going to get someone that will standup to the little third world shitholeastans that think they are in our league, that we be a resounding NO.

Would Governor Perry be better than obamadork or hillary...Oh hell yeah! Governor Perry after a brain aneurism would be better than obamadork or hillary. That’s my two cents.

He's hoping he can make up for his mistakes last time. He really destroyed his own candidacy, when he could have waltzed in and locked it up.

I find him acceptable, but not one of our best. I hope he drops out quickly, even though I wouldn't support him early, I wouldn't pull away if he actually won.

There are two very good candidates we have, and half a dozen reasonable ones. I just hope the ones we could support don't end up giving us Rubio (Jeb is dead).

I don’t think Jeb will happen there’s possible only four front runners at this point and they are in no particular order: Walker, Cruz, Bush and Rubio. Bush is a very weak front runner, he only gets there by name recognition, Rubio is going to screw up, Walker and Cruz IMO are the only legitimate contenders. The GOP field in 2016 is way better and stronger than 2012.

Why on Earth would they stand by a guy who did not serve a day in his life in the military. Cruz was not interested in serving in the military. Rick Perry made a choice to serve the country so of course the military is going to support him. That is an easy explanation.

I actually preferred Perry in 2012. Too bad he messed up, but, I can overlook that - I really can. Any of our candidates (except for Bush) will be an improvement over the squatter now in the WH.

What is this now? 30 candidates, with EVEN MORE waiting to announce?! This is just beyond retarded.

Are you saying our constitution is retarded?

Don’t recall any part of the constitution that talks about party primaries.

This mass # of candidates isn’t cute or a celebration of our constitution. It’s an ever growing group of narcissists that will screw up everything and will give the Dem nominee a cake-walk.

The number of stupid quotes from this many people will be mined and parceled out for months!
