Continuing Talk of War in Europe and Asia

In May I received a note from Romanian analyst Anca-Maria Cernea who referred to a conference “by an excellent Polish analyst, Prof. Przemyslaw Zurawski vel Grajewski, who was saying that whatever the Russians were about to do, in terms of advancing to war, it was probably going to happen before Obama’s second term is over. So it’s going to be now, or quite soon, or never….” As Cernea also observed, war may occur because Putin is “desperate about the possibility of losing power….”

Yet Russia’s war preparations are grounded on something deeper, and more far-reaching, than the political ambitions of one man. The foundation of the present Russian military buildup was laid many years ago, when Vladimir Putin was still a boy. It may be argued that the foundation of the current situation was laid in 1957 – by Leoonid Brezhnev’s special committee for reconfiguring Soviet strategy. With the advent of intercontinental rockets and the hydrogen bomb, Soviet strategy had to find a way around the problem of “mutual assured destruction.”

Today our weakened nuclear deterrent is vulnerable to a first strike. Our nuclear forces are old and run down. We have been fighting wars against Muslim extremists, paying little or no attention to our former Cold War rival. Recently Putin announced the resumption of TU-160 “Blackjack” (nuclear) bomber production. There has been no similar announcement of a buildup from the American side. One would think that the socialists and peaceniks around the world would take Mr. Putin to task (for being a warmonger). But they do not. The World Socialist Website, published by the International Committee of the Fourth International, is busy denouncing the United States deployment of B-1 bombers and Marines to Australia.

One of many reasons to get out of the central cities, IMHO.

Neither jihadists or ruskies are going to bother with our little holler in WV. FedGov is another story, but at least we’re low on their list. For now.

We are entering the most dangerous 12 months since the birth of this nation. If we come through unscathed it will be in spite of, not because of our political leaders.

Well that certainly helps narrow it down!

If your QB throws 15 interceptions in a row, it's not just a sign of weakness.

Here’s a tweet from earlier this week by John Schindler, a professor at the naval war college:

“Said a Senior NATO (non-US) General Officer/Flag Officer (GOFO) to me today: We’ll probably be at war this summer. If we’re lucky, it won’t be nuclear. Let that sink in.”

Here’s the link to his Twitter account: https://twitter.com/20committee

Just consider, if you have the luxury to plan a war, you start it in spring/early summer. You will have your forces already marshaled in forward positions and fully equipped and supplied. You do not want to start off with winter closing in.

Kicking things off on a new moon is always a plus.

Does any of this sound close to today’s situation?

The Nazi Operation Barbarossa, the invasion and destruction of the Soviet Union, was supposed to commence on 1 May 1941, but because of an anti-fascist coup in Yugoslavia, which made Hitler furious and redirect the destruction thereof; caused Barbarossa to be delayed by 6 weeks, and did not start until 21 June 1941. By mid-October, when the freeze up started, the Germans were within sight of the distant towers of Moscow. But by this time, Stalin had rallied his forces in Moscow’s defense, and the Russians biggest ally, Father Winter, had arrived too.

Imagine if the Nazi’s started Barbarossa on time.

Which leads me to hope it is too late for a Spring offensive in Europe this year...

Nuclear weapons do not care about the weather.

Neither do the Russians, they look on winter as an ally. Their tanks all have heaters, no AC.

No AC needed 14 hrs/day even in summer. They all have NV capability.

You can not win a war without taking and holding ground. We still have occupation troops in Japan, Germany, and even going back to the late 1800’s we still have occupation troops in Cuba.

Actually, we still have troops in Cuba.

Guantanamo. Philippines, and Guam to. But not Mexico for some reason.

A conventional war requires you to take and hold ground. To actually win a war, you have to do what we did in WW2. You occupy their country and screw their women. THEN you have beaten them. We did not do that in WW1 and that was why we had WW2.

Nuclear war, you do not want to occupy the other country. Usually you do not have the capability to do it because the other side shot back. This is known as MAD. Which both is an acronym and a descriptor.
