I have to ask, have you ever watched any episodes of the Duggars TV show? I have...as my 20 something daughter and my 50 something good friend both were hooked on it so I started to watch. I’ve probably seen 3/4s of all there shows (somehow I missed the now infamous mini golf embarrassment). But I’ve watched enough to formulate my opinions now based on what I saw get thru the editing process and make it to air.
At times (remember all this is after editing, and the shows are, like Duck Dynasty, soft scripted) there was just a general weirdness (that I dismissed or changed channel on) from JimBob...what could be endearing nerdiness, at times was just awkward and out rift weird. I saw Josh as JimBobs “mini-me” except he seemed to wield more authority (a Gothard thing?) as oldest male child than did Michelle. She MANY times seemed to defer or rely upon Josh in an odd sort of way.
I really wanted to believe the family was as it appeared to be on tv. But having watched (for harmless entertainment and having my instincts tell me what I was watching what it was cracked up to be) I feel I can add my two cents...
I agree with you on the media, but the Duggars (starting with the TV show within a few years of Josh’s “ problems”) sure didn’t exercise the best judgment for the family. I can’t help but think (again going to timing) that Josh was kept in the home and things were glossed over as the TLC contract was being negotiated. Ultimately, you can’t invite the media in for thousands of hours of film of your family and the cry “privacy” violations when things don’t work out as the family had planned.

My wife found them weird but genuine Christians
My middle son liked it till now
Several Baptists I like know the family and vouch for them
But I know folks here I vouch for despise Gothard life as much as FLDS

My biggest caveat is where did he get the impulses

It’s feast for some I know that so enjoy but I’m no longer comfortable with the Duggars as a punching bag for the Godless Christ hating left and faggots
And this notion Christians must be perfect to have an opinion about anything prurient is absurd and a shoutdown for those who detest believers
Bad as they may or may not be id prefer to side with the Duggars now rather than the bulk of those now attacking them
