Are they going to keep the trade deal a secret after they pass it without debating it?

Because they’re spineless idiots if not outright traitors to the constitution.

Any Congressman with backbone could disclose all of the contents he could remember, regardless of the so-called non-disclosure agreement,

Those who disagree with this secrecy should just leak what they learn to a friendly reporter. There are definitely many pols in DC who wouldn't hesitate to leak information when it serves their purpose and this one would be totally justified.

China is not, at present, part of the treaty.

I agree. Congress should declare the matter null and void unless it can be openly discussed.

China is not, at present, part of the treaty.

That is, from what little has leaked out, one of the problems with the treaty: It is open-ended, that is, it lets other countries later join it without having the Senate ratify the change in treaty partners.

This same type of provision has been disastrous for European countries. The ones who first joined the European Union thought they knew what they were getting into. Then, the Union allowed more and more countries to join and suddenly the original countries found that they had to allow unlimited immigration from countries they had never contemplated. Among other similar problems.

Yep, the NDA is worthless when it comes to debate on the House or Senate floors.

No, accession of new countries to the EU requires unanimous consent of current member-states.

Americans are stuck with 2 Parties that consistently put Americans and America second. Give us a Party that protects that which is most important ..our sovereignty and rights. Give us one Party that supports immigration that benefits citizens instead of politicians or global corporations. Give us a Party that enforces existing imigration laws. Give us a Party that doesn’t spend a dime on other countries unless our own nation is out of debt. Give us a Party that supports the Constitutional obligation of Congress to declare war, not a President. Give us a Party that unequivacably supports going after corruption at all levels.. Etc.

“Yes, lots of Republican reps are against this, just not the leadership. Also, a lot of Dems are against this, because their labor union masters do not like it.”

If anything good comes of this, I believe that the (remaining few good) Democrats and the (remaining few good) Republicans can once again speak to each other, disagree in many areas, but find common ground in serving the best interests of the American people. And torpedo this garbage.

You wonder why the Rooskies don’t steal it and leak it to us. Pooty-Poot would get massive cred out of it.

How many F’n jobs do we Americans have to surrender to the rest of the world. Millions of jobs have been outsourced overseas, hundreds of thousands of H1B visa holders shipped in to the U.S. to displace American workers, millions of illegals pouring across our borders taking low income jobs displacing black American workers.

Ross Perot was right on the mark....if NAFTA passes, we will hear a huge sucking sound of jobs leaving this country. Numerous trade negotiations so damn lopsided against America/American workers amounts to nothing more than legalized treason. Free trade? We want fair trade.

This is INSANE! A super secret trade deal that is slated to pass a republican controlled house of representatives that most reps have not even read?

Every single American should be moved to civil disobedience over something so illegal, so unconstitutional. Our nations economy is in dire straights. We have 90+ million working aged Americans out of work. More families on food stamps than any other time in our history.

This gubbamint is ramming through secretive legislation at an alarming rate. In a free and open society there MUST be transparency throughout our government or we cease to be a free society.

American corporate executives/lobbyist stuffing the pockets of politicians and have been for years in return for policy that will strip this nation of it's vital manufacturing base. This is a national security issue. Shipping sensitive technology to a country that is our enemy...communist China? This is completely out of hand. Our nation is being betrayed.

Back when I was a kid, and was taught about how laws are made, I was shown (on a Capitol tour) a red light outside of the Senate chamber. The guide explained to us that the Senate could go into secret session (hence the red light), but that the House, being the surrogate of the People in our system, could not.

IT IS OUTRAGEOUS that our representatives would even CONSIDER voting on a Bill that cannot be debated or discussed on the floor. It is not permitted by the rules of the House.

And, as others have pointed out, if they cannot even speak of it, it must be immeasurably evil.

Thanks for your correction. I was echoing the comments of a Swiss friend who was complaining about immigration into Switzerland from countries with which, according to him, Switzerland never contemplated having an immigration treaty. Maybe I misunderstood which international agreement he was referring to, but he clearly said — whether he was right or wrong — that expansion of that agreement led Switzerland into immigration treaties that most Swiss did not want.
