It means that dip-@i$t courses in social sciences, etc can get the ax because they’re useless and cost the university, so they’re gone.

Gov. Walker’s and the Republican legislature are giving UW the power to clean house.

Universities across the country are watching closely.

Having worked in academia for twenty plue years all I can say to Gov. Walker is atta boy! We have professors who have “tenure” that are so stupid they wouldn’t walk in out of a category five hurricane without being told too. We can’t get rid of them because of tenure.

Tenured professors retained in programs nobody is signing up for, yet they are still in their offices when you can find them there, drawing their salary and teaching their ten students per semester. I know one faculty member who has unlimited sick days-—unlimited, and is supposed to take twenty-two vacation days per calendar year. He is now up to thirty vacation days already and planning another thirty come July. Administration knows but does nothing, he has tenure.

My wife’s former boss was a controller at a Big Ten university and she said the faculty essentially decided what their budgets were going to be and stomped on administration who would in general meekly agree with whatever this or that program wanted. Controls, receipts, legitimate expenses? LOL! Why should faculty have to show where they spent the universities money, after all they are faculty.

If we can replace “Lesbian African Studies” with “Advanced Linear Algebra” - isn’t that a good thing? Does that not provide the means to reverse this demand for “STEM skills” by increasing availability here on the home front for those who learn in classrooms?
