On May 25, officers with the Crowley Police Department busted through the front door as a family was sitting down for Sunday dinner.
Footage from an officers body cam was eventually leaked to the press, showing the homes owners, well-known attorneys J. Clay LeJeune and his wife Mitzi Mayeaux, engaged in a dispute with the officers. It quickly turned ugly, with LeJeune receiving the business end of one officers Tazer. Both were arrested and later indicted by an Acadia Parish grand jury on charges of public intimidation, retaliation and resisting an officer with force of violence.

Question
What is the PDs side of this? Why were they there? Don’t think they would break into a house without some reason, even a bad/stupid one.
Note that the statement is all about the illegality of the search. No mention of why or what was found.
Inquiring minds......
Thank you for that. NY uses “boroughs” too, but I think those are smaller than / contained within counties. At any rate, I always take “parish” as a signal of being in Louisiana. I’d guess that turns out to be incorrect too, one of these times (not this time though).
I like Crowley, used to go to the rice festival every year there...and Rayne for the frog festival. Great thing about Louisiana, every town has their own festivals. Nothing beats Contraband Days in Lake Charles though.
The neighbor called 911 and said they heard a girl screaming “Help Me!” from the house. That is why the police responded. It turned out later that it was the daughter yelling for her father to help her catch the dog.
Regarding how much the police were overreacting to the homeowner not cooperating, I would want to read a more balanced report than from a progressive rag.
Crowley is located in southwest Louisiana, right on Route I-10. It is also the Acadia Parish seat where the Parish Court House is located. It’s often referred to as the Rice Capital of the World. (tongue in cheek).
I wouldn’t use the Independent to line my birdcage, talk about a liberal rag. You will not get the police department’s version of the event in this paper. The largest paper around, The Lafayette Daily Advertiser, is also a liberal rag of the Gannett News species. We have no printed conservative news in Cajun country despite the area being one of the most conservative voting blocks in the United states.
Maybe I missed it but...
Is it too much to ask of the article for a link to the video that is talked about and a reason why the cops were there in the first place?
“Yelling from the back yard...” is a reason for calling 911? OMG, I yell, my neighbors yell, our neighbors’ kids yell,
I know there is a Crowly, LA—but there may be other states with a town named Crowly that I don’t know about.
While I agree with your general notion that ppl should be held accountable in some way, it should also affect the management as well. Thus, training will or should be more effective as to laws and enforcement. This also applies to the judiciary that sign-off on questionable home invasions, etc.
I would certainly exempt arrests based on arrest warrants from any penalty to the cop unless he lied to get the warrant. I do agree that whomever sought and issued the warrant should be held responsible, but that is at least more than one person making a decision. I am far far more concerned with a cop on his own sole discretion imposing costs on a member of the public.
