CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte woman called On Your Side Investigates for help after she paid a local contractor thousands of dollars for work on her house that wasn't completed.

Tanza Boller recently bought a house for her and her two children with the intention of fixing it up. She said she wanted to find someone she could trust, so she used Angie's List to help find a company to do the work.

Angie’s list attacked Christians in Indiana.

Angie’s list is also dying. First, they charge for info that most people can find at their hardware store or Lowe’s store.

Second, they have been caught charging their recommended workers for better advertising in their list. IOW, you can be a crappy worker, but you can get their best recommendation if you donate more to them or buy more advertising from them.

Angie’s List can go perform a physical impossibility after the Indiana fiasco.

Its a lonely life, and difficult to shop for, but I try to boycott just damn near everything that is pro-insanity at this point.

Boller signed a contract that lists the total price of remodeling her kitchen and a bathroom at $30,000. She paid a total of $21,000 before any work was completed.

Idiot. Get three estimates. Take the one in the middle. Then pay...by check...1/3 as a down payment to start the work. Then 1/3 when work is started and the last third when work is completed. If they demur or protest, tell them to get lost.

I was looking online yesterday for someone to aerate that lawn at my office. I studiously avoided any company associated with Angie’s List and found a responsive company on my own. Felt good.

No kidding. Word of mouth from trusted friends and neighbors is far more reliable.

I had a tree service come in to cut some trees for me and they wildly underestimated the job but did it for the price they quoted. I needed 6 BIG trees cut but the quote they gave me was for 2 trees.

While they screwed themselves on my job, they ended up picking up several other jobs for my neighbors based on their honesty.

Also, check references, if they are licensed and bonded.

I also check with my reliable and reasonably priced plumbers and electricians. They know their word has to be their bond and they know just about everybody in the local area. I would never use Angie’s list even before their betrayal of a Christian owned business. I hope their company sinks into oblivion.

....which is why I posted this. Since Angie’s List is against freedom of religion, I will work to oppose Angie’s List.

They did something like $5000 worth of work for $1400.

These weren’t trees they could simply drop either. They were 60 and 70 foot trees up around the house and all needed someone to top them and cut them off piece by piece coming down.

Tried to use Angie’s List, couldn’t get any of the contractors to call back. Useless

Years ago I used to sell Kitchens for Sears Home Improvement...

All the time ran into poor people duped out of thousands of dollars paid to some dirtbag to remodel their kitchens...most of the time they would rip out the old kitchen, throw up a few cabinets and be gone...

They were the easiest sells to make...

Sears kitchens were not cheap second rate cabinets (expensive) but they did do the work to the customer 100 % satisfaction...

It sounds like a good idea gone sour. Greed probably got to the owners as getting money from contractors for being listed and getting money from consumers seeking contractors is an opening for conflict of interest. The temptation for overlooking bad work is high when those seeking a listing pay for it.
