In all due respect to you, I beg to differ. I don’t think this is much ado about nothing. Not at all.
It strikes to the heart of the freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, and other Constitutionally protected liberties.
I am not blaming the police. If there’s a law prohibiting ‘peddling’ without a permit, then there’s a law. The blame goes to the city council or county government.

I disagree. For one thing if you ask for donations, you don’t have to file income tax later on. Donations is a better way to go. I wonder if these parents of the little girl have any business sense at all.

When it comes to food and drink, there needs to be some safeguards to insure that the products are safe to consume. Then what about bake sales?

The blame goes to the city council or county government. On second thought, I don't agree with any of it in this case. I was thinking more generally when it comes to selling open food and drink. It's risking enough buying food from venders who HAVE a proper permit, especially here in New York City.
