If progressives want to retake government, a full-throated war on public corruption is the key to everything.

After one of many trips to sub-Saharan Africa, Bono recalled that on his first visit there he thought its biggest problem was AIDS. Later, it seemed it was poverty; after many visits over many years he at last saw that it was corruption: the problem that kept all other problems from ever being solved.

Corruption is hard to unmask, and harder to measure, but we know its cost to Africa is truly staggering. One study puts it at a quarter of the continent’s total GDP, itself a paltry 2.4 percent of world GDP. Another says it slashes growth by 20 percent every year. It was long hoped that the sale of Africa’s vast trove of natural resources would generate the investment capital necessary to move its people out of poverty and into the modern age. Instead, the money is siphoned off by corrupt elites who blow it on lavish lifestyles, park it in Swiss banks or invest it in high-end Paris or London real estate. It’s the world’s most common form of treason and goes largely unpunished.

We live amidst a global pandemic of corruption. It ravages Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and devours Africa. It was the issue at the heart of every uprising of the Arab Spring....

How much money Bill Clinton made on Haiti must be staggering. He was the special UN envoy to coordinate all reconstruction and medical services.

The people are still living in tents and nothing is repaired.

I've also heard he took control of all telecommunications companies.

The cost of Democrat corruption in measurable debt is about 8 trillion since Obama took over

All the politicos in Africa are pikers compared to the Afroamerican in the White House

The measured debt is merely the beginning of the corrupt theft

Of course the Tea Party is right.

Frivolously spending money you don’t have is bad enough, but diverting those borrowed funds to friends is criminal.

How can Satan cast out Satan?

If progressives got rid of corruption they would be called conservatives.

Big government is almost tautologically corrupt government. You can’t have that much honey without attracting vermin.

"Retake government" ? What?

"Progressives" have owned government since 2009, and maybe since 2007 when Pelosi took over the House.

And as far as a "full-throated war on public corruption," I don't think I can laugh hard enough.

Democrats are corruption. The revel in corruption. They redefine corruption as virtue every day, and have been doing so since the civil war, if not before.

"Progressives" can no more wage war against corruption than a dog can wage war against its own tail.

I was going to post the article this morning but opted not to due the the source.

But I'm glad you posted it.

I'm starting to consider the idea that most American's are essentially patriots and nationalists, and that they are absolutely fed up with government corruption.

Left and right.

From the IRS to "Free Trade" and Crony Capitalism.

But unlike the author, I DO NOT see Republicans having a political advantage over Democrats on this issue.

Republicans practically wrote the book on filth. And the Democrats are worse than that.

Ultimately, the solution if Trials and Hangings on the Capitol Steps.

Pray you live long enough to pull the trap door.

As common as corruption is in the US, politicians don’t want to do anything about it for some reason.

a full-throated war on public corruption is the key to everything

And the fact that no politician has run on this theme in decades is extremely telling. Easily 90+ percent of voters of all parties and of all political persuasions are for ending corruption as much as possible... and yet NOBODY brings it to the table. That means that the corruption is so massive and endless that even 90+ percent support isn't enough. THAT'S how bad it is.

I believe I heard that Bono said that what
destitute Africa needs is more capitalism.
It doesn’t sound like something this world
class tree hugger would say but if it was
then it would be one of the few things he
ever got right.

That really worked out well for the Haiti people!!!
