Just an observation. Due to my confused handed upbringing I came to the conclusion in baseball even though I had more power batting left-handed (left arm is strongest) I was able to see the ball better batting right-handed because the dominant eye is forward.

Richard Nixon was a fan of Elvis Presley & presented him with a Secret Service badge & honorary commission.

IIRC, with that authority Elvis carried a concealed weapon under his Las Vegas getup into the Oval Office for his meeting & photo op with the President around 1972.

I could be wrong.

Anyway, Ronald Reagan liked his guns & was a defender of the Second Amendment. He lifted the GCA-68 embargo on foreign military firearms in 1983. The legal AK-47 invasion began soon after.

This guess is that he left his guns in a room before entering the room with the president.

Now, before Presley went into the Oval Office, before Elvis went into the Oval Office, they took his
gun away from him, didn’t they?

Jerry Schilling
Well, Elvis was sharp enough to know. First of all, he did two things. Number one, he said, “I’m
carrying weapons,” and he showed them. And I don’t know if he kept them. I think they were left in
the office that we used. Because Bud, Egil Krogh — there was an interrogation. That’s a tough word,
but, you know, “Why do you want to meet the President? What do you want to talk about?” And it was
a real nice, serious conversation between Bud and Elvis. And Sonny and I were there, but you know,
this was really — and I was really proud of my friend, because he knew what he wanted to do.
Everything he had said in the letter he was really putting meaning to it in this conversation with Bud.

Hello, I’m Timothy Naftali. I’m Director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. I’m
here today with Jerry Schilling who is going to participate in the Richard Nixon Oral History Program.
Jerry, I’m delighted that you could be with us today.

Jerry Schilling
Thank you, Tim. This is certainly a big honor for me, and I know my friend would be very happy that
this was going on. He was very, very, very proud to have met President Nixon, and they had a very,
very mutual respect, so I’m glad to be here, Tim.
