I think I disagree...David named one of his children with the -Baal name. This would show that Baal was another name for God originally,

IMHO, what it shows is that Ba'al worship was rife in ancient Israel, despite efforts of the Judges and Prophets to stamp it out (the Bible confirms this fact repeatedly), and that kings were sometimes willing to placate that segment of their subjects.
