Perhaps it isn’t the best phrase, although I use it for Mitt Romney as well, but “anything but” is definitely wrong.
With 25 years served in elective office, spaced over a 42 year period, Washington had a lifetime of being involved in politics and elections.
I still think 67 was a ripe old age for that time.
When I was born it was still considered old age.
Now it seems more like upper middle age.
Although presidents tend to have longer life spans than average men, George Washington was one of 15 presidents who died between the ages of 53 to 67, not counting assassinations.
Dying at age 67 in Washington’s day, was not bad.
