Concur. Our barracks was right close to the parade field/soccer field, so we saw a good bit of that. Last time I was by, there was a tennis court set up in the middle of it, and that was a pretty good clue that The End Was Nigh.
I played special weapons in the FA a couple of times. The 8” round resembled a can of tinker toys - not fun to put together.
There were six or seven SpecWeps secure facilities around Oggsburg and Toelz, and I ran into a few more when I took my training at Lenggries, and later was briefed on others in the vicinity of Heilbronn, our eventual fallback position, though none of us expected to hang on for the three weeks or so it would have likely taken to fall back/evade to that area...except that we WERE in a tank battalion. But on one of our currency training courses, the instructor kept harping on our plans to obtain additional *packages* in the event we hadn't yet nailed our primary targets. I cheerfully informed him that if we were still around, it'd likely be because we had avoided the known-to-Ivan SpecWeps dumps that were targets for their desantniks at best, and their arty and air if it was a really bad day at the office. So just how did we expect to rearm and reequip and get our primaries, we were asked.....
