Shooting Victims’ Families Forgive Gunman in Court

Hate won’t win.

In a heartwrenching display of strength and mercy Friday, relatives of the men and women massacred at a black church in South Carolina told the racist madman who murdered their loved ones that they forgave him.

“Although my grandfather and the other victims died at the hands of hate, this is proof — everyone’s plea for your soul — that they lived in love and their legacies will live in love. So hate won’t win, and I just want to thank the courts for making sure that hate isn’t winning,” said a granddaughter of retired pastor Daniel Simmons, 74.

“I just want everybody to know, to you, I forgive you,” said Nadine Collier, a daughter of victim Ethel Lance, 70.

Just wow. They put me to shame. I would try to sneak a weapon in and kill him. Forgive me Lord.
What incredible people.
They have saved more lives by squashing any potential riots, i think.
Not like “Burn it down!” comments by Brown’s father.

What legal purpose was served by the bereaved’s statements?
This smacks of a barbaric ‘star chamber’... a ‘show trial’.

A disgusting crime doesn’t justify disgusting justice.

What legal purpose was served by the bereaved’s statements?

Why aren't they allowed to say their feelings? Why would you punish them more?

The same reason they are ‘punished’ by not being allowed to cut him, beat him, kill him or even throw things at him.
The presumption of innocence in court.
Their feelings had nothing to do with setting bail.

Dignity and sober maturity went extinct some time ago.

Our culture is now all circus, all the time.

And BTW, what a silly, maudlin, feminine question.

It was such a beautiful display of Christianity. They were showing their Christian love and honoring their dead.

Much better Christians that I will ever be.

I'm glad the Judge let these people honor their loved ones and profess their faith. It's such a contrast to the Muslim religion.

There are higher authorities that man and his government. God’s will was shown today, love is the answer to all questions. True wisdom requires a basis in love.

Alien 1: “We’ve uncovered why the species destroyed itself.”
Alien 2: “Yes? Well why? Why would an obviously intelligent and advanced species commit suicide?”
Alien 1: “It served what they considered the highest calling. They thought it would be ‘good theater’.”

“The presumption of innocence in court.”

He’s already confessed to the crime. There’s nothing wrong with the family members being able to say they forgive the man who confessed to the crime of killing their loved one. He still gets his trial.

If anything, they made him more human. It was the first time I saw him without a smirk on his face.

Just saw/heard that on the news. Heartwrenching. But these people are so very Christian to the great depths of their hearts. God bless them.

The love of Jesus Christ.

Not their politics.

Not economic redistribution.

Not Obama.

They’re much better people than I would be in the same situation. May the Lord Bless and comfort them.
