EXCLUSIVE — TED CRUZ: OBAMATRADE ENMESHED IN CORRUPT, BACKROOM DEALINGS
Breitbart ^ | 23 June 2015 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 06/23/2015 4:29:02 AM PDT by Leto

As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administration’s public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

The question for the trolls is:

WHY DID SENATOR SESSIONS VOTE ‘Y-E-S’ ON THE ‘S-E-C-R-E-T’ IRAN DEAL?

To Diogenesis: You’re out of your league here; that’s a fact.

I’ve already answered my question with HONESTY.

My answer is:

I DON’T KNOW, I DON’T HAVE ALL THE FACTS.

It would be better for you if you followed with a similar answer.

If you voted for Mitt, the odds are that Cruz will never reach his level of liberalism. Thus my statement holds true.

I don’t see how having helped give the GOP permission to be liberal is being washed away by your conscience so easily with time. It should be grating on you because it’s the same lesser evils giving Barry all his power.

Paul is one of the two Senators to block the Cruz and Sessions amendments that addressed the immigration issue in TPA.. Linda Graham is the other.

TPA is actually a very good bill and it’s not new. The previous TPA was killed by Harry Reid to take it away from GW Bush. This TPA is a reinstatement of the old bill. And TPA is not secret.

TPA is not the problem. The problem is Obama/Boehner.

Ted Cruz reversed his vote because of the amendments by liberals that Boehner allowed and the conservative amendments that Boehner killed.

"Ted Cruz reversed his vote because of the amendments
by liberals that Boehner allowed and the conservative amendments that Boehner killed."

Unless you are from the Office of Toast'ed Cruz,
given the appearance of impropriety and conflict of
interest with his wife, it is just as likely
that the money bonuses were now 'in the bank'.

I just object to the crucifixion of Ted Cruz by some on here because he supported TPA, which if passed in a pure form is a good bill. Cruz is a man and the inhuman demands for perfection are a standard that those criticizing cannot attain themselves, but still have the temerity to demand of others. Cruz is the best man in the race and there is no one else even close.

Yep! It’s glorious here. :)

As for this Cruz thing, it’s been one of my very few hangups regarding Cruz but there was so much craziness surrounding it and I feel, disinformation, I set it aside as a deciding factor when picking a candidate.

I did have a niggling feeling about it because of these deals and the corruption I felt this was mired in but I hoped Cruz would pull out.

The thing is, I agree with him on the principles of trade. And I think he still agrees with the tenants this legislation should have represented.

But once things became clearer, I’m so very glad he called it out. Supporting the idea of something is different than supporting the application of it, especially when that application is fraught with backroom deals like this one is.

It takes character to do what he did here, I think. So many others would just barrel on but I’m glad he didn’t. He’s one of the few I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt on because he’s proven himself elsewhere.

He had my support before, and he has it now.

Nosense. Cruz should have known to begin with, that anything Obama touches would be wrong.

You do also realize that he only pulled his support once he knew there was enough support to pass it.

I am comforted now by the fact that enough old-time and knowledgeable Freepers have you pinned.

Your credibility is gone.

Your only recourse is to start using one of your other FR names and carry on with your absurdities.

Diogenesis = TROLL!

I concur. But trusting a Democrat-loving creep like Mitch, vouching for Maobama, is inexcusable. I hope that Ted can regain traction now.

This is my point. Why would Cruz E-V-E-R trust Boehner?

How about Mcconnell saying this on Jan 7:
“We’re in active discussion on TPA,” said McConnell, adding, “It’s an enormous grant of power, obviously, from a Republican Congress to a Democratic president, but that’s how much we believe in trade as an important part of America’s economy.”

Remember when Cruz said this:

“Any vote for cloture, any vote to allow Harry Reid to add funding to Obamacare with just a 51-vote threshold, a vote for cloture is a vote for Obamacare,”

This trade bill was the same dang thing. WHY would we agree to a simple majority vote on a possible disaster bill? Cruz didn’t think we should do that on the Obamacare bill.

If you don’t get this, than you just don’t want to get it. A lot of the comments on here remind me of the romney supporters telling us that if we don’t vote for romney, Obama thanks us. Enough!

Your post is spot on. The problem is Obama, Boehner, and McConnell.

Senator Cornyn of Texas is on now extolling the virtues of TPA. Many of the “my way or the highway” bunch on here didn’t stop to think that Ted Cruz represents the people of Texas and not the entire nation. His opponents back home are going to make him pay for changing his vote.

The best thing for Diogenesis is to ignore him. He posts the same thing over end over again. He never makes any sense. Since he leaves out Walker when listing supporters of TPA, I expect that may be who he supports.

I don't expect someone who is called a Conservative to give Obama power in anything.

The GOP was put into power to make Obama a lameduck, and yet, here they are giving him more power.
