Trump Surges in Popularity in N.H., Taking Second Place in Suffolk Poll
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 23rd, 2015 | By Reid J. Epstein

He’s dismissed by the political professionals, but there is no denying that the appetite for Donald Trump among Republican primary voters is real.

The New York developer and reality television star is second among 2016 presidential candidates in a new Suffolk University poll of New Hampshire Republicans – behind only former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The poll of 500 likely GOP presidential primary voters found 14% back Mr. Bush. Mr. Trump is right behind at 11%. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio come next, with 8% and 7%, respectively. The poll tested 19 GOP candidates – a rare survey that included ultra-longshots like Mark Everson and former Govs. Bob Ehrlich and Jim Gilmore.

While Mr. Trump is experiencing a bump in popularity after announcing the launch of his campaign last week (he filed formal Federal Elections Commission paperwork Monday), he remains the most disliked GOP candidate in the field. Suffolk found he is the only GOP candidate with a net unfavorable rating in New Hampshire — 37% of those surveyed had a favorable opinion of Mr. Trump, compared to 49% who had an unfavorable view.

Correct. Cruz is fortunate that he had second chance.

I don't know, what have we gotten from avoiding over the top remarks?

Well, he can say Mexico sends us their excess population and problems without calling them rapists. And he needs to stop just calling his opponents 'incompetent' and give more examples of why they're incompetent. And a president can do some things on trade, but I don't think one can just assess a 25% tariff on one company as he suggested concerning Ford.

He needs to be loud and blunt, but he also needs to be correct and give more valid examples to support his criticisms.

“So you dump Ted over one issue”

It’s a pretty important issue I would say. He had the opportunity and the responsibility to read it.

New Hampshire rarely matters, and rarely rewards conservatives.

I know a couple of places in Conway where Jessie Helms would sound like Jessie Jackson.

The investors in Trump’s failed Baja endeavor might not share that view.

I can see that. it’s too late for wordcraft/stagecraft. We may need a slash/burn no nonsense leader that can not be bought...time will tell I’m just checking it all out.

I would say in this race, those that are 3 leg conservatives include Cruz, Walker to some degree, Carson to some degree.

I would say Trump and Fiorina have their conservative moments, and they have the fighting tone down, but both have a long history of dalliance with liberalism. Rubio is heading the same way, but he’s very eloquent in discussing the conservative views he does have.

I would say Rand is very conservative on some issues and not at all on others. I would say Huck and Santorum are social conservatives who are shockingly liberal on some other issues.

I would say Graham and Jeb have little if any conservative cred.

Have I missed any body?

I will be eager to see if Trump has evolved on 2A and his position on O-Care.

yeah, he’s been a big proponent of universal health care in the past. Off the cuff, I don’t remember his 2A stands, but it would make sense he would be for some infringement of that.

Basically he’s philosophically incoherent over the years. Goes with the hip flow of the moment. He “loved Obama” at one point too.......just going with the flow.....

If you say ‘American jobs for American workers’, voters will come running to you. It’s that simple. Bernie Sanders is working along the same lines on the left, with similar results.

Ordinary working people are turning en masse against globalism. They quite properly see themselves as getting the short end of that stick. Both Trump and Sanders speak to these workers in a way that other globalists in the Demopublican party do not.

Kind of like doing business in India, you mean? It goes far beyond that. He hedges his bets all over the place. Such a principled guy. What makes you think he wouldn’t fold like a cheap tent with every poll that skews to the left? He’d be no better than Boehner, McConnell or the rest of those fools. Worse - because he’d act like Obama and just ignore the law and make his own.

I just tried to imagine a President Trump. He would be on TV every news cast , running off at the mouth, showing off. How awful would that be!!!

Nice try? Are you really foolish enough to believe context matters? OK, here are the quotes in context. Enjoy!

Wolf BLITZER: Do you identify more as a Democrat or Republican?

Donald TRUMP: Well, you'd be shocked if I said that in many cases I probably identify more as Democrat.

http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0403/21/le.00.html

Now the quote you provided in your lame attempt to try to besmirch the memory of President Reagan.

Sam Donaldson: Mr. President, in talking about the continuing recession tonight you have blamed mistakes of the past and you have blamed the congress; does any of the blame belong to you?

President Reagan: "Yes because for many years I was a Democrat."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh2DeQtVyJM

Your desperation has reached news lows.

He’s still silent on Obama Care.

Well that's not true...during his recent Presidential announcement speech he called ObamaCare a lie and vowed to repeal it. This is consistent with what he said at the Iowa Freedom Summit in January this year.

Trump hasn't provided too many details for what he would replace ObamaCare with, but he has spoken out on the issue.
