Following the massacre in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday in which a gunman shot and killed nine people attending bible study at a historic black church, the Confederate battle flag — also called the rebel flag, the southern cross and the Dixie flag — has been the subject of contentious debate.

California passed a bill in 2014 that banned the state government from displaying or selling merchandise bearing the Confederate flag.

I think we have a new contender for the title of "Most Pointless Law Ever Passed".

But California is building a high speed desert train right now. That is the most pointless project ever funded.

Vote Yes on Prop 196, to ban the sale of Confederate Flags onboard California bullet trains.

do you really want the state making anything? By not spending taxpayer money they have probably prevented somebody from receiving kickbacks/bribes.

At least they haven't tried to make it illegal for a private company to make or sell the battle flag, or make it illegal to possess one.

It would be very hard to prevent people from ordering one from out of state or for bringing it in by car or as a passenger on a flight. They would have to have agents at the airports inspecting the luggage of passengers to make sure no one was smuggling in a battle flag. Then Bill O'Reilly would invite spokesmen for both sides and some liberal motormouth would tell us all why the law was justified and worth any inconvenience to travelers.

I heard a CBS reporter, on the radio this morning, refer to the flag of controversy as the “Stars and Bars”. What an idiot!!!

Screw all these people!
I just ordered two 3x5 flags from Amazon - before they, too, stop selling them.

This is just stupid.

The poll also showed that African-Americans, Democrats and the highly educated were more likely to perceive the flag negatively.

Translation: Only knuckle-dragging backwards white Republican Tea Party types view the flag positively.

Also note how deftly NPR has danced around the fact that the "Dixiecrats" who revived the flag for explicitly racist purposes were DEMOCRATS! NOT a THIRD PARTY!

Guaranteed to spike sales of the CBF for a few weeks.

Amazon has a bunch of offerings.

Think I’ll get a couple. And a couple Gadsdens, too.

Outside of all of the rhetoric about this, I have to admit, I just have always thought it looked kinda cool. I suppose that makes me racist?

If a Conservative does not like something, they do not buy it or read it or watch it or listen to it or bother with it.

If a Liberal does not like something they want it banned, period.

Remind me again who is the tolerant ones?

California is decaying from neglect while the Democrat legislature spends its time writing, and passing do nothing, feel good, liberal wet dream laws......

There are several movements in the state to separate the loony areas of Los Angelus and San Francisco from the sane parts of the state by creating new states! Sooner or later one will win out!

It is a historic fact that the confederate battle flag exists. It cannot be "undone".

The dangerous precidence set is that this is occurring more and more frequently as political correctness runs rampant eradicating historical reality.

It is a form of censorship to remove it arbitrarily. The funny thing about that is that the symbolism of hatred is assigned to it by the people who think that they can correct the perceived hatred by pretending the flag doesn't exist anymore. Even more extremely, displaying it is almost becoming criminalized.

Trust me, if this trend continues, the Bible, the constitution as well as the US flag will soon follow.

But the majority, 58 percent, reported feeling neither positive nor negative. The poll also showed that African-Americans, Democrats and the highly educated were more likely to perceive the flag negatively.

The author does not understand the logic of conjunction and disjunction. It's almost a metaphysical certainty that all three elements cannot be true by joining them with an "and" whereas it is highly likely that one of the elements might be true if joining them together with an "or." Of course this is an existential view of the proposition.

As a highly educated person, and a student of history, I feel qualified to say the following:

The Civil War was fought over state's rights.

Perhaps some folks ought to either remember that, or learn that.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of our country's heritage. It should stay. This is so beyond stupid that I , living well north of the Mason/Dixon line, am considering adding one BELOW my US flag.
