EBay bans sales of Confederate flag on its site (And Etsy,Amazon, too)

Calling it a "contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism," eBay said Tuesday that it will ban the sale of Confederate flags and similarly themed merchandise.

"This decision is consistent with our long-standing policy that prohibits items that promote or glorify hatred, violence and racial intolerance," said eBay spokeswoman Johnna Hoff.

The e-commerce company is the latest to prohibit the sale of Confederate merchandise following Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Sears Holdings Corp.

The Dixie Flag Company in San Antonio will keep selling them.

We are currently sold out of Confederate Battle flags and will not sell them in the foreseeable future. We have sold this historic flag for 57 years, but in recent days it has drawn intense criticism and served to divide our country. We feel that we do not need to contribute to this division, and encourage all Americans to come together under the Stars and Stripes of our nation’s flag as we approach our country’s birthday on July 4th.

As of 7:33 AM, 6/24 (EDT), ebay has 610 listings for Confederate Battle Flag.

As pf 7:34 AM, 6/24 (EDT), Amazon has 2,321 listings for Confederate Battle Flag (but with a quick look, it appears that the actual flags have been removed).

Flag Stuff has two flags.
