All four Confederate flags posted at Alabama state Capitol’s Confederate memorial were removed Wednesday morning following a quiet order from the state’s governor, Robert Bentley (R).
The Confederate battle flag was removed from the Capitol around 8:20 a.m. Gov. Bentley, who left the building a short while later, confirmed to inquiring reporters that he ordered the removal of the flags. AL.com reports:
Asked his reasons for taking it down and if it included what happened in Charleston last week, the governor said, “Yes, partially this is about that. This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down.”
Bentley said before he made the final decision he checked to see if there were any impediments in the law or state policy that would prevent him from taking down the flag and found none, so he acted.
The other Civil War-era flags removed are the First National Confederate Flag (known as “Stars and Bars”), the Second National Confederate Flag (known as the “Stainless Banner”), and the Third National Confederate Flag.

I could basically not care what happens to those things, but lots of us are sticking our necks out to help protect southern rights to these symbols and monuments all over because when those go they will turn their guns onto other non-southern symbols, but in the end you people need to be out front and vocal, not people in Michigan, New York, or Montana.
In the end this has to be your fight to lead. If you dont show up, then you dont want it, and we Yankees can go do something else.

Hey, dont let me get in the way. Here’s your stage, go for it! Because right now there hasn’t been much more than a small number of people grumbling. Just buying flags off of Amazon before they stop them isnt going to accomplish much.

You want fewer allies, then keep on with the “damn Yankee outsider” attitude. It isn’t Northerner’s fight to preserve southern symbols if you guys are going to just ultimately roll over and take it. What do you expect those of us up here shouting on your behalf to do?
Homos don’t fight. Homos like mass shooters act only because the media gives them attention and a massive spotlight. what about that don’t you understand . the media is the problem.
It’s like saying this creep al sharpton fights . NO: the media gives him a podium so that’s why we see him on the news and “fighting” . if the media wouldn’t report on his actions then he wouldn’t do anything. ditto for homos and mass shooters.

I am from Alabama.
It is my considered opinion that the state capital, and any other place in the state displaying the history of the state, should fly one of the flags of the Confederate States of America. It is part of our history. There was good and there was bad.
You don’t erase history. You accurately document it and learn from it.

A photograph of the Confederate Flag held by a insane person certainly requires use of an opportuity for deflection from his so called manifesto as his murderous excuse. Citing the assults and murders of completely innocent whites, “hispanics, and asians, committed by black youths and their reason given was” the cold blood killing of Treyvon Martin” .Doesn’t it ?

I have yet to hear anyone say how removing the flags from public property improves their life.
