It’s easy to understand the left’s attempt to shove Jefferson down the memory hole. Jefferson’s principles offend them greatly:

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

Its about de-legitimizing the founding fathers. In leftist circles, the constitution is widely held up as an illegitimate document...and the excuse given usually revolves around their ownership of slaves and the three fifths compromise.
Those quotes are mostly made up.
