My Favorite student is a little Indian Girl who is Six years old. She is a christian, born in a country that is mostly Hindu and Muslim. She can play chords with her left hand and tunes with her right and has learned Ode To Joy, Going Home, Morning mood, Minuet by Bach, twinkle Twinkle, Arise and Shine, Jesus Loves Me, and a bunch of other songs. I write them out for her, and she colors in the notes to correspond with the rainbow (7 notes in the scale, 7 colors in the rainbow!) Now she can read the notes without using the colors and has discovered that she can play the SAME song in a higher or lower octave and have it sound the same...only higher or lower. She discovered this herself and was very excited about it!
She asked me today why some of the hymns were harder to play than the other songs. I told her that it’s sometimes hard to be a Christian! She got the joke, and said...yeah...especially in India!
Gosh, I love that kid!
Oh my goodness....what a sweetheart! And only 6...what a future she has. Glad you two are “working” together.
Mozart color-coded the scores of his horn concertos.
