MALONE Richard Matt has been shot and may be dead near Malone, a source has told The Buffalo News.
Tweets from the Plattsburgh Press Republican said that several trooper cars with lights flashing were headed west in Malone of Fayette Road about 4 p.m..
... and you got to eat at Balloons!
If they were together or very close when this suspect killed, I’d guess it a good chance the other one will be dead or captured before sun-up tomorrow.
Hopefully that other scenario won’t happen.
Apparently it's not all that uncommon up in the Adirondacks. People have shared hunting cabins, and some/all of the people who use the cabin will leave firearms there.
The issue in this case is that, according to what I've read at least, this particular cabin was shared and used by so many different people, that no one could accurately say how many firearms (and what types) were in the cabin at the time (and thus what was missing), so no one knew exactly what weapons these guys had taken.
I read that it was owned by a group of the prison guards at Clinton. They may have been tipped off by the one guard as to where they should go to get weapons........................
No, I had transferred from there in December 1983 to work at Midstate in Marcy, NY. Auburn did briefly have Joseph Christopher nicknamed the ".22 Caliber Killer in our Special Housing Unit (SHU), although I never got to see him.
Never ate there. I went to The Sunset Restaurant and Curley's Restaurant.
I used to drive past Midstate sometimes on my lunch breaks.
Much nicer environment than Auburn, at least once you left the grounds.
What a grim-looking place Auburn is.
Who in hell leaves a firearm in a remote cabin?..............not smart at all...................
I've never had a Fjord. Had a Djodge once, a very long time ago.
Sometimes if I got to leave work early (6-7 p.m.), there'd be wild turkeys on the facility grounds outside the fence. And there'd be deer grazing in the fields that were on either side of Bigelow Drive (main drive up to the prison). I made Sergeant at Marcy C.F. across the street, then transferred back to Midstate and worked there until I retired in 2003.
I just heard that apparently they did a carjacking. Did they kill the victim?
Good catch on that. there have to be more than the two employees busted so far, who were in on this. No one wants to explain how a large amount of noise over an extended period went unnoticed
Forgot to respond to this is my last post. Auburn Prison's been there since around 1818. It was the second prison built in the State after Newgate Prison. It was the site of the first electric chair execution in the State in 1890 (William Kemmler), and Chester Gillette was executed there as well. Copper John still stands on the top of the Admin Building. At least he was still anatomically correct when I worked there.
Many years ago, probably before I was even born, the center yard of the prison had a tree-lined park. When I was working in the I.D. office briefly, I saw old glass negatives of when Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show appeared there. Here's a clip from The Citizen newspaper of Auburn:
"June 16, 1910
Buffalo Bill has never done a more graceful thing or one which more fully illustrates the kindness of his heart than the free show he gave of his Wild West performance yesterday to the inmates of Auburn prison.
Buffalo Bill is beginning his farewell tour of the show business. It will take him about three years to visit all the places to which he has illustrated the former wildness of the West, but when he has passed out of the show ring and looks back over the eventual scenes of a busy and in some respects heroic life, we doubt if anything will give him more pleasure than the recollection of the bright day he gave to 1,500 inmates of the Auburn State prison."

Sounds stupid. If I’m going to the cabin to go hunting, I’m bringing the guns with me and they leave with me
Best retort of the day.
