A newspaper in Harrisburg, PA, PennLive/The Patriot-News, informed its readers yesterday that the paper would no longer be accepting anti-gay marriage letters or op-eds.
After nationwide outrage was expressed, the paper revised its policy slightly; you could submit anti-gay marriage tracts for a limited amount of time.
After receiving strong pushback, the newspaper’s editorial board, which is overseen by Editorial Page Editor John Micek, quickly revised its policy. Freedom of speech will be allowed — but only for a “limited” period of time.
Micek explained on Twitter: “Clarification: We will not foreclose discussion of the high court’s decision, but arguments that gay marriage is wrong/unnatural are out.”
Before that, there was this: “From the edit: ‘PL/PN will no longer accept, nor will it print, op-Eds and letters to the editor in opposition to same-sex marriage.’ …This is not hard: We would not print racist, sexist or anti-Semitc letters. To that, we add homophobic ones. Pretty simple.”
Note that it is now "homophobic" to oppose a matter of public policy. It's like saying that people who want to reform the EEOC statute are racist. It's nonsense.

No surprise from PennLve!
Censorship is in vogue now.
Time for readers to not accept subscriptions either. More fishwrap and bird cage lining material.
“I told you so”, R.W. Reagan
This is chilling. Very chilling.
So now we are going to censor our freedom of speech, our freedom to disagree and take issue with decisions of a branch of our government?????
Haven’t there always been opposing points of view on any court cases, in which people will take issue and disagree with the reasoning of the courts, the conclusions drawn, etc. And have such dissents published????
So now people at this publication have decided that homosexual marriage is so special that there can be no dissent???? Really????
Losing our freedoms one by one.......
Newspapers have been censoring them for years. Back when I wrote letters to the editor they would take nearly anything but that. So I decided to ONLY write about that. About 100 or more letters later, I finally got one printed — had to send it to someone other than the letters editor.
it is chilling in that they felt they could be open about it. Make no mistake, it has likely been their policy for years and years.
If they gave America an enema, Harrisburg is one place they could insert the tube
stop buying and advertising in this paper.
don’t buy from advertisers.
File a VERY large lawsuit. It’s flat out discrimination and needs to be dealt with.
That’s all they understand. Time to do to the left what Reagan did to the Soviets. Bankrupt them. Force them to spend their own money and they will stop doing it.
It’s a private business. They can print or not print whatever they want.
Sure they can, just don’t call themselves journalists in a free society.
Kind of like if you’re a baker running a privately owned bakery, you can choose whether or not to bake a cake for a potential client?
Unfortunately, having a private business does not promise freedom. You won’t have much of a choice now.
True. So they are being preemptive and allowing approved by the state rhetoric to be printed.
Tough times ahead.
Seems like they are saying they have the right to do this by negating someone else’s to get their view published. All people have rights, but some are not happy unless their rights can override the rights of others.
“Its a private business. They can print or not print whatever they want.”
It was also a bakery. They could serve whoever they wanted.. Right?
