They need to be careful what they ask for because they might be surprised when they get it. In community property states, a married couple not only share assets, they share debt. When the tax man cometh, he can now legally come after the partner since they are now married and share that particular liability, and they share any criminal charges that result from tax fraud.

There now will be divorce and all that entails, including property settlement, alimony, child support etc.
