yes. it has happened here. the southern states that seceded in 1860/1861 had an armed citizenry.

Lincoln signed the 1st Confiscation Act in 1861 that gave the federal government the right to confiscate weapons from any and all persons who may have the intent to rebel. i’m not sure if it ever was enforced, but Lincoln did sign it and it did help fan the flames of rebellion... as well it should have!

I'n not talking about Civil War, geographically half a country aginst the other half.

I mean a tyrannical central government cracking down on its entire citizenry, ruling against a majority or significant minority across the land.
