Katie Couric interviews Ted Cruz
Yahoo ^ | 6/29/2015 | K. Couric

Posted on 06/29/2015 8:31:44 AM PDT by VinL

Ted Cruz continued his verbal assault on last week’s historic Supreme Court decisions on Monday, saying the justices who ruled in favor of Obamacare and gay marriage “rewrote the Constitution.” “They joined a team, they put on bright-blue Obama jerseys and they rewrote the law,” the U.S. senator from Texas told Yahoo News’ Katie Couric during a live sit-down interview from Yahoo’s New York City studios. “Those decisions are a threat to our democracy.”

Cruz slammed Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the majority opinion in the Obamacare case on behalf of what the 2016 Republican presidential hopeful called “five unelected lawyers.”

“I think the chief justice believes somehow that by rewriting Obamacare he’s keeping the Supreme Court out of politics,” Cruz said. “But sadly these will go down in his legacy as the most political decisions he has ever made. And they’re violating his oath of office.”

The Court’s decision to effectively legalize same-sex marriage in every state, Cruz said, is a “profound threat to the religious liberty to millions of men and women,” regardless of their faith.

The Supreme Court ruling extends to gay couples the ability to apply for and be granted state-issued marriage licenses, but some conservative religious leaders worry about being petitioned directly to take part in services or otherwise recognize marriages their faiths continue to oppose.

“Society has no right to force a Jewish rabbi to perform a Christian wedding ceremony,” he said. “Society has no right to force a Muslim Imam to perform a Jewish wedding ceremony.” “There’s nothing in the Constitution that demands we tear down the marriage laws in every state,” Cruz, a conservative Christian, continued. “I am eager to fight for religious liberty.”

Couric asked Cruz if he’s out of step with public opinion on gay marriage since 60 percent of Americans believe same-sex marriages should be recognized as legal.

“I’m not at all,” Cruz said, blaming “liberals” and Hollywood for pushing the gay-marriage agenda.

The 44-year-old first-term senator vowed to expose what he called the “Washington cartel” in his run for the White House.

“I think it’s wrong when our elected leaders are lying to the American people and treating us like we’re stupid,” the first-term senator said. “People are fed up with people who say one thing and do another.”

That includes the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court represents the elites in New York and Washington, D.C.,” Cruz said.

On the issue of the environment, Cruz dismissed climate change as a “pseudoscientific theory.”

“Satellite data shows there has been no significant recorded warming. None,” Cruz said. “When the satellites are measuring the temperature — it’s not happening.”

Climate change, he said, “is being driven by politicians who want more control over our lives.”

On the subject of terrorism, Cruz criticized President Barack Obama for not correctly defining the threat.

“We cannot defeat radical Islamic terrorism with a president who is unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism,’” Cruz said. “It matters.”

The Obama administration, Cruz said, is engaging in what he calls “photo-op foreign policy” — “drop a bomb here, a bomb there.”

“We should be funding the Kurds and using them as boots on the ground,” he said.

On immigration, the Canadian-born Texan and son of a Cuban immigrant said America needs to “get serious” in securing the borders.

“There is no stronger champion of legal immigration than I am in the Senate,” Cruz said.

But the Texas senator declined to answer the question of what to do with the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.

“With respect to the people who are here illegally now, I don’t think we have to solve everything at once,” he said.

On his chances to win the Republican nomination, Cruz dismissed polls that show him trailing his GOP rivals despite being the first to launch a campaign.

“I think national polls are almost entirely irrelevant,” Cruz said. “I think the energy and enthusiasm we are seeing [on the campaign trail] is incredible.”

Balderdash.

And your reply is BS.

re: Who cares about the excuses, sweep overs and hide the nut alibies for why Sarah got her clock cleaned? No one HAS to be a sucker for the obvious.

Yes they do if they're only the VP candidate in a Presidential race; they have to follow the instructions of the Presidential candidate and the staff he puts in charge. Palin was ordered to do the interview following the guidelines dictated by Nichole Wallace and Steve Schmidt, both of whom were closet Romney supporters and opposed Palin's selection as VP.

If not Sarah herself showing a sliver of calculated smarts, the McCain campaign itself could have and should have negotiated for non-cut status of the Couric take down interview, or DECLINED the damn thing entirely!

Again, Palin was following the orders of the McCain's campaign managers. That's what VP candidates have to do. Cruz himself is probably actually trying for a VP spot since he blew his chances for the top spot with his sophistry on TPA/TPP. Palin was not in a position to dictate the conditions/terms or refuse the interview.

Further, Nichole Wallace and Couric were friends, and Wallace deliberately set Palin up in hopes that McCain might decide to replace her on the ticket (it was early enough for that to be feasible).

The only valid point you made was that Palin was a bit naive and inexperienced regarding the ins and out of national campaigns. She didn't know the people she was dealing with and probably never dreamed she'd be sabotaged by members of her own team. She learned quickly, and demonstrated it by single-handedly rallying the McCain campaign and preventing him from suffering an ignominious blowout.

Palin had some serious faults, but the Couric interview debacle was not solely, nor even mainly, her responsibility.

Google the interview and get back to us.

What else was he going to say about Palin support? HMMMM? Cruz has rejected no one’s support, anywhere, he saw her get grubbed, was surely sympathetic, but those who supported Ted Cruz certainly never waited on the musings of Sarah before doing so.

Texans had already swarmed the Cruz campaign, I must say, before Sarah had her plane ticket. Cruz knows all too well who did the heavy lifting in Texas. Dewhurst was a left turn artist that no Texas Republican was going to give way to. What harm did it do for Ted to give Sarah a little credit? She had her PAC funders and followers paying for the trip and it must have been greatly appreciated by the Cruz campaign. So what? Lots of personalities flew in.

Cruz does an incredible job with the liberal media. He holds his ground and still comes across as likeable.

If Cruz doesn't win the nomination, it will mean that whoever does win must perform even better than Cruz and that is REALLY saying something.

[[Its easy to say climate has been warming over the last several decades, but the published materials often lack sufficient analytical regard to measurement uncertainty. ]]

Climate change is real- is a cyclical natural event that goes from warmer to cooler to warmer- all by itself- it has happened all throughout history-

[[so inconclusive. IMHO.]]

Well we do have several indicators that show the mideieval times were much warmer than today- icecores records, periods where fauna did much better thanks to warmer lciamtes, periods where they died off due to colder temperatures , CO2 measurements in CO2 traps on earth etc-

I understand your fraction of a degree argument, however, I believe there are historical recrods of periods that were much warmer andm uch cooler- ie ice age etc-

All you said mean is another portrait of being a dupe in the first place.

Ted Cruz is giving us all a tutorial on not being a dupe, handling media meanies and the gotcha interviewing.

Highjacking this into a Palinbot thread was not my intention, so you guys get the last word on that.

Apologies, Vin.

I'm sorry, we are talking about two different things. I'm referring to what Cruz was talking about in his interview, the pseudo-scientific satellite-measured climate change notion (man-made), not just that climates naturally changing over eons of time (as they always do and must). All 3 of his sentences refer to the former notion, not latter (after all, how long has the earth had satellites!):

“On the issue of the environment, Cruz dismissed climate change as a “pseudoscientific theory.”

“Satellite data shows there has been no significant recorded warming. None,” Cruz said. “When the satellites are measuring the temperature — it’s not happening.”

Climate change, he said, “is being driven by politicians who want more control over our lives.”

It’s just not a fair fight.

You sure hit the nail on the head in regard to Cruz..

Cruz has argued NINE cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court and WON all NINE.

I think most of the MSM realize to push him too hard could result in getting THEMSELVES blown right out of the tub.

If Cruz decides to obliterate someone INTELLECTUALLY that moment will be immortalized FOREVER on YouTube.

MSM goons are even smart enough to realize NOT to venture into the lion's den..

Fight vagina (Hillary) WITH vagina!

Palin has a vagina and Carly has a vagina, hildabutchbitch has a dark hole, dry as the Saraha, stanky as a french sewer, crawling with demonRATs as big as T-Rex, covered with pus sores, smelling like an out house without lime, and as beautiful as as she is.

The bitch is as rank as a bag of bloody puke after a night of drinking and bar fighting. I cannot hate her any more than I do now.

I'm ready for hillary, I have diarrhea.

Your jealousy and desperation are showing, Cruz wasn’t just being polite, he was stating a fact.

“I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Governor Palin,” Cruz said.”

Cruz said Palin, like him, drives the mainstream media “bat-crap crazy” because she is “fearless,” “principled,” and “courageous” while the mainstream media wants conservatives to “shut up and accept defeat and be timid.”

I think most of them are just smart enough to realize they are idiots compared to Cruz and that they will be exposed as the idiots they are if they push him too hard- it will be funny though if one of them aren’t quite smart enough to realize they are being set up by him to be exposed as being ignorant on the issue they are discussing- and watch that person dig themselves a hole they can’t escape from

No problem sir! What is refreshing is that he’s spot on with his climate statements. Ted’s a smart cookie, and if asked for further details on what he meant, he’d likely stay right on message.

I hope he handled her better than Sarah Palin did.

As long as you do live interviews you will be ok. Sarah was hoodwinked by backstabbers in her campaign who promised her that Katie would be fair. CBS deliberately cut the interview to make her look silly and uninformed. A terrible lesson for future conservative candidates..NO TAPED INTERVIEWS!!!!

One of the problems with those so-called “interests”, is that the elites who run global corporations want the sons and daughters of American citizens (whose God-given rights they oppose) to protect overseas privately-owned assets to the death, if necessary.

Protecting embassies - yes, I have no problem with that; diplomatic relationships are necessary.
