OK, I understand the angst about how the Confederate Flag has been murdered by PC. I understand people’s pride in the ancestors’ courage, etc., and I love tradition myself.
What I don’t understand is why people are so in a tizzy about a Democrat flag? The Democrats invented the Confederacy, they were for slavery, a Democrat designed the flag at the center of this controversy, Democrats invented the KKK, Democrats invented Jim Crow laws and Democrats fought the civil rights laws through the mid-1960s...flying the Confederate flag the whole time. So why are a bunch of conservatives (most of whom are, I presume, Republican) so upset? I ask this question in all sincerity, without trying to insult anyone, but merely trying to get people to think?
Also, I’d like to get the national conversation turned toward the FACT that the Dems are the party of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow and segregation, and that the Republicans are the pro-civil rights abolitionists. You all want to preserve history, in the form of a flag? Better to preserve the accurate record of the behavior of an entire political party that oppressed a race and now denies it.
If you think it’s just about the flag, you’re sorely mistaken.
The left is just starting with the South; they’ve always despised us as the last bastion of conservatism and traditional values.
Do you really think they’ll stop with us? They won’t. They will just move on to their next target until our white Anglo-Saxon roots are effectively wiped from the record.
They already want statues of George Washington pulled down, and the Jefferson Memorial.
Wake up.
The Confederate flag is viewed today as a symbol of rebellion against the dictatorship of Washington,D.C. elitists ,which is why many people display it and why the big government types hate it. The idea of telling the central government to “leave us alone” is very appealing to most self-reliant people. Those people who have become accustomed to the federal handouts and promotions based on race rather than ability LOVE the big daddy in Washington..
You’re preaching to the choir. However to ban, and/or eliminate the CF will be to pretend as if the Civil War never happened. If NASCAR doesn’t want it at their races well then, for better or worse for the vendor(NASCAR) and the buyer(the fans) it’ll be a scorched earth trade-off and nobody wins but there it is....
Right on.
You are from the north and after working up there then you don’t surprise me in what you have said and you certainly don’t understand
I am not a Southerner by birth but I suppose what I am is called a “damn Yankee”. One who came south and stayed.
That flag does not represent the politics of the Confederacy. It’s a battleflag belonging to only one of the many armies who fought on the side of the South. It represents the pain and the glory of what is termed the War of Northern Aggression.
It means a lot to the southern heritage and to ask/force it to be eliminated, is not helping and will create the conditions for something that can certainly be avoided..
