[April 2, 2014] Blockbuster $1.5m book deal for Ted Cruz memoir

WASHINGTON – Sen. Ted Cruz has inked a blockbuster $1.5 million book deal, agreeing to write a memoir about his brief tenure so far in Washington.

HarperCollins agreed to provide the advance after a four-day book auction last week, according to today’s Washington Examiner, a conservative news outlet. That puts Cruz, the tea party darling and Texas freshman, at the top of the list of potential GOP candidates penning books ahead of the 2016 presidential race.

And it’s the biggest book advance in years for a conservative, topping even the $1.25 million that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin secured after her 2008 run for vice president.

“The book, still untitled and unwritten, will be part memoir and part Cruz’s view of how to get Washington to work again as well as his vision of the future for the country. The 43-year-old has quite a story to tell, being the first Hispanic to serve as Texas solicitor general and as Texas’ senator,” Examiner columnist Paul Bedard reports today.

Back in December, Cruz acknowledged to us that he planned to be an author, sooner than later.

Q. Let me ask a few political questions. First, are you writing a book?

A. I hope to. I hope to write a book at some point.

Q. What would it be about? Because, you know, everybody who runs for president writes a book.

A. In time there are a number of books that I’d like to write. There are enormous challenges facing this country and I hope to use every tool possible, including writing books, to have a positive influence bringing this country back to the free market principles and constitutional liberties that have made us stronger.

The Examiner reports that “several publishing giants fought over the weekend to grab the Cruz book before HarperCollins emerged the winner. A final deal ”

This book will sell.

As opposed to the Hildabeast’s tome which is now available in the bargain book section at Walmart.

My prediction as a Cruz supporter and NYTimes #1bestselling author: He'll be lucky to sell 100,000 copies.

He won't have the DNC or Clinton Crime Family Foundation buying tens of thousands of books.

It would be interesting to see what Rubio's book did.

I finally saw the interview of Cruz by Couric on that Yahoo channel and Ted was just awesome. You definitely want to check it out if you haven’t seen it. Not only did he deftly dodge her “gotcha” questions, he made his entire case on every issue she touched and did it very convincingly. He never ever looses his cool, and always comes off more friendly than the person interviewing him. I’m definitely sold and feel like Cruz is VERY Reaganesque.

It was very good, however they cut out (censored) the part of the interview (around the 26 minute mark) where she asked the birther question and got diced up by Cruz. She tightly crossed her arms and was fuming when Cruz pointed out that Hillary began the Obama birther issue.

I watched both the edited and unedited versions. She knew Hillary started it.

$1.5 million for a book deal is not all that great. I have a close friend who was paid $1m for the U.S. Rights and about $500k for worldwide and audio rights.

And almost no one would know her name or the book.

Just sayin’. Publishers can toss around some crazy money.

Senator Cruz came to our local Sam’s for a book signing this week and was extremely patient and gracious and worked hard to pour energy and enthusiasm into that crowd. I believe that everyone there deepened his or her support for his candidacy and commitment to turning this nation around. The minute the signing finished, Cruz’s staff whisked him off to another signing in a nearby city.

It’s going to take Herculean effort to turn our nation’s ship of state away from its current path toward the shoals of destruction. But, if anyone can deliver that feat, it’s Cruz.
