Only America need be punished for the slavery that happened there over a century and a half ago..
We need reminders like this one, that describe the torture and government approved subjugation found in most countries outside the United States.
This is a fine piece of journalism.
.....so then he comes home to find Obama’s been elected Present in the meantime, and returns to his captors.
what is amazingly NOT mentioned is that all of these Thai slaver fishermen are THAI MUSLIMS . They would not go anywhere near Indonesia if they weren’t
Slavery is part and parcel of Islam and Muslims , they think nothing of mistreating all others . Why do you think that Burmese Buddhists are so vehement against moslems ? They KNOW what will fillow if they allow them their usual inroads .
THAI MUSLIMS are a intolerable , yet tolerated curse , on all of Thai society .
Isn’t this sweet? Your mom is always on your side, thick or thin.
Wonder if AP paid this poor family for their story? Or did they just use them?
Bump
Piracy in the straits of Malacca, Malaysia. Another Muslim area.
Piracy in the Mediterranean, until it was put down by the West. Again, it was the Muslims. (Over 1,000,000 Europeans along the coasts and fisherman over 1,000 years were enslaved. Not a commonly known FACT, but there it is.)
Anywhere you find Islam, you find piracy, kidnapping, and the like.
They're BARBARIANS. Let's not leave them for our children to settle with.
They essentially behave like VIKINGS, to be honest: a heaven full of orgies that glorify the blood spilled in Earthly life.
The problem is, our own PC attitude: were the Muslims WHITE, the media would call them to account. But they're not white. They're a protected skin color, and there's a bit of reluctance to call them out for their misbehavior.
Instead, what we hear from the media are lies about the "Religion of Peace" and suppression of their atrocities. The media only report on them when they have to, when word will get out anyway, via the Internet.
What a horrid heartbreaking story . and all the worse since it has direct implications for anyone in North America who eats seafood.
There has been so many times that big chains have had their feet held to the fire by some group or other taking them to task about overseas labour practices . typically the garment industry with unsafe work conditions like that factory that collapsed in Bangladesh.
It certainly seems like this situation with the fishermen slaves in Indonesia/Thailand needs to placed right at the feet of the top brass in all your big supermarkets in North America starting with Wal-Mart. Who on earth would want to eat fish caught overseas after reading a story of slave labour and dead bodies like this? Is this still going on or have things completely changed? Where do the big food distribution chains stand on this? Are they just turning a blind eye?
Its one thing to have unsafe work conditions and low pay its another thing to actually use pure slave labour to put food on the plates of people in North America. I don’t think that I can ever look at the produce in the seafood aisle the same way again.
Is this simply a case of avoiding all seafood that is from Indonesia and Thailand?
