Joe Heck, Nevada GOP congressman, to run for Harry Reid’s Senate seat
The Washington Times ^ | July 6, 2015

Republican Rep. Joe Heck on Monday entered the race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Nevada Democrat Harry Reid, setting in motion what could be one of the top Senate races of 2016.

Heck made the announcement in a video posted online, citing his background as a medical doctor in the emergency room and on a military deployment to Iraq. He talked about the struggles his family endured growing up and having the help of a union and social services when his father was out of work.

“When my father needed emergency surgery, Medicare covered it. That’s why I’ll protect Medicare and Social Security and preserve it for future generations,” Heck said in the three-minute video on his website.

The Republican congressman will likely face off against Reid’s hand-picked successor, former state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto. The Democrat announced her candidacy in April and saw one potential primary foe — U.S. Rep. Dina Titus — decide against running in favor of seeking re-election to the House.

Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison, former Assemblywoman Heidi Gansert, Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers and former Lieutenant Gov. Brian Krolicki — all Republicans — also have decided against running, clearing the way for Heck.

I am cautiously hopeful about a Heck victory. Harry Reid’s political machine was wrecked last year.

"Republican Rep. Joe Heck on Monday entered the race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Nevada Democrat Harry Reid, setting in motion what could be one of the top Senate races of 2016."

So... Nothing will change if the guy is elected.

“When my father needed emergency surgery, Medicare covered it. That’s why I’ll protect Medicare and Social Security and preserve it for future generations But I know there's a better way to provide affordable, accessible healthcare for all Americans without weighing down our economy with unsustainable entitlements and socialist pipe dreams,” Heck said in the three-minute video on his website.

That would be a better answer.

Heck isn’t a conservative, he is for amnesty, backs Boner, hates tea party.

30% of students in Vegas are illegals, making it the worst state Nevada in education. Class size is like 35 per class.

Heck himself a doctor hasn’t back defunding Obamacare with the congressional power of the purse.

This morning he listed like 7 of his favorite candidates and Cruz isn’t one of them.

I would like to see Wayne Allen Root who is a gaming expert and a conservative/libertarian run. He is a dynamic speaker and a really smart guy.

Okay, thanks for the breakdown on that.

He doesn’t sound good. Hope your alternate choice jumps in.

That would be a better answer.

You're confusing Medicaid and Social Security with Medicaid.

Both Social Security and Medicare were robbed of almost a trillion$ each to fund the enormous new welfare programs for Obama and his moron constituency.
Those would be "permanent disability" and Medicaid...

This morning Heck said he is running for Senate since not having to run every 2 years for Congress would be good for his Army career. Heck is a reservist, wants to spend less time on the peoples business and more time as a weekend warrior.

Its this that aggravated me, there are close to 100 million people out of the workforce, the country needs his medical opinion to help get a viable replacement for Obamacare.
The budget is out of control. We need a full time Senator, by Heck’s priority is his part time hobby tromping around the desert of Las Vegas instead of helping his town filled with foreclosed houses, closed Malls, and illegals stealing jobs in the area leaving the real Nevada unemployment rate just about as high as Michigan.

Heck has not been a leader, at least though I hated Reid he knew how to lead.

Root is running (IMHO). He just hasn’t announced yet. He is all over Northern Nevada.

I’m not confused about anything. Both Medicare and Medicaid are Great Society debacles.

The Republican Party of Nevada is one great BIG joke! Sandoval ran on a promise of no new taxes, and then did a complete 360 in signing a new budget for a whopping 1.2 BILLION dollars, with help of a majority Republican legislature. Heck has cast some pretty bad votes in the House. They ALL LIE! The RNC helped put Harry Reid back in office by not supporting Sharon Angle financially.

Sharon was Tea Party. Sandoval was against the Nevada AG supporting Texas and 25 other states challenging Obama.

Sandoval is pro amnesty, hasn’t discouraged illegals at all. Sandoval is an empty suit, I would be surprised if he doesn’t run for Reid’s Senate seat.

Your right he is raising taxes everywhere, including the internet purchase of handguns.

Now if you buy out of state guns when you register you pay the in state tax rate.
