-- What would be a proper bail? ZERO? --

Well, proper bail depends on many factors. I'm not sure if your ZERO represent "bail denied" (held without bail), or ROR (released on own recognizance). The law recognizes those values, and everything in between, with the proper amount being decided on an personal-individual case by case basis.

The starting point for setting bail, in Texas, is Article 17.15 of the Texas Code. The criteria, "to send a message," is absent from the criteria prescribed by law. Further, the statute recites, "The power to require bail is not to be so used as to make it an instrument of oppression."

As was done.

Yep, it really does appear that some folks have slipped into a perfect mirror image of the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” crowd.

Wow, you really caught me there. Oh, wait, you didn't. Our discussion started with me saying (among other things) ... "Bail was set improperly in the first place, see bail amounts eventually established by actually following the law."

I didn’t compare the nature of the two events, I asked a question that highlights the hypocrisy of these demands to see the video NOW. Both are well known violent incidents captured on video. So if we demand to see video for one within weeks, it stands to reason we must have been quite upset not to see the video of the other incident for years.

Let’s not get bogged down by the specific incident. I could have cited nearly any high profile crime that was caught on video, since most of the time, the videos are not released immediately.

Only in Ferguson, the ‘HUDS’ mantra was started based on witness statements.

Here every witness that has stated an observation or opinion has said that the bikers started the shooting and/or the LE performed responsibly!

True, they seem to be too lazy to even gin up some false witness statements to back their crazy narrative.

You note to the Gator: Obviously your only purpose here is to agitate.

I suspect there is a second purpose: to try to sabotage the majority's morale by inflating the minority view's volume of posts. Prodigious posting by the likes of Gator make it appear this minority is not as tiny as it is compared to the majority view, which would be YOURS and MINE.

That, I believe, is why the Gators and other dupes post about three times for every ONE post of an opposing viewpoint.

Thoughtful readers notice contents, and give substance more weight than volume. at least I hope that's the case, and based on feedback I've received over the years, I believe is the case, as well.

In other words, don't sweat a large volume of repetitive remarks that don't advance a substantive argument.

He is cut from the same cloth as the “Justice For Nifong” crowd.

Years from now Boogereater and Monica’sDressSpurt will still be insisting that whatever those people wearing vests did, it was bad enough.

Proper bail does not depend on many factors.
It depends strictly on likelihood of flight.
people with jobs and families and no criminal record are unlikely to flee their responsibilities just because there is an incident in a parking lot.

A million dollars was way off of the deep end.

Typical assertion for someone with your dogged stupidity tbough.

I'm the one who said "many factors," working off the Texas statute. I do agree that the primary purpose is to "insure" appearance, your risk of flight.

The judge who lowered bail agrees, "A million dollars was way off of the deep end" for most defendants.

As the law works to correct its past mistakes, the state-worshipers will boast that the law is working just like it's supposed to, and pretend that the errors never existed. I've seen this play before.

As many have noted the parallels in police and district attorney behavior to the Duke LaCrosse rape hoax are striking.

The dogged supporters of each also are similar.

Ah yes, and in the Duke Lacrosse rape hoax, the law (eventually) worked!

At least in the Duke Lacrosse case, Nifong had a witness. This case is even thinner.

I see the clown squad has successfully made themselves the subject of discussion and thus validated their own miserable existence.

If those extremely limited assertions is all it takes for you to choose a side, you have a problem, and you are a problem.
