Federal Judge Apologizes for Calling Ted Cruz Not Fit to be President by Alex Griswold | 6:45 pm, July 9th, 2015
Richard_G._Kopf_District_JudgeA federal judge apologized Wednesday for calling Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz not fit to be president.
Judge for the District of Nebraska, Richard G. Kopf operates a blog entitled Hercules and the Umpire. One post was bluntly titled Senator Ted Cruz is not fit to be President, and attacked the candidate for his proposal to introduce term limits for Supreme Court justices.
The problem, as The Volokh Conspiracys Orin Kerr pointed out, is that Kopfs comments likely violated the code of ethics for federal judges. In particular, the Code of Conduct for United States Judges says that A judge should not publicly endorse or oppose a candidate for public office.
Kerrs arguments swayed the judge. Specifically, when I wrote that Senator Ted Cruz is not fit to be President and when I made related assertions of unfitness for office and the like in reference to Senator Cruz as a candidate for the Presidency, I crossed the line
Kopf wrote. Consequently, [I] apologize to you, Senator Cruz and everyone else for my error.
He needs to resign immediately.
The jerk is not fit to be a judge.
Judges are so dignified these days.....
Which is an ironic statement to make in light of who is the current President.
Since he’s a liberal it’s no problem, not like people who get fined and persecuted for not baking wedding cakes.
So if Cruz is unfit, did he have an opinion on Hillary or that commie Sanders?
Hit the road, Jack. And take the rest of the judiciary with you. We’re tired of you.
Watta dumass...probably DWI.
Like most of the 'judges' sitting on top benches, this political jackass needs to be impeached.
I hope bill ayers blows up his house.
Judgie wudgie kinda made the Senators point. The people need to control these judges, as they cannot control them selves.
Judge Dum Kopf.
Actually, the way things are happening today with the third branch of government, I am starting to question whether those signatories to the Constitutional Congress who were opposed to the Judicial Branch weren’t actually correct...
Cruz is certainly fit and qualified to be President. That said, I’m a bit bothered by his proposal concerning SC Justices. There’s a reason why they were given lifetime appointments and can only be removed by impeachment. Elections have consequences and this is one of them, like it or not. Cruz can’t call for the repeal of the 17th Amendment on the grounds of being a Constitutionalist and demand similar change to the Judicial Branch.
Not worthy to pose for a picture with the flag of the Republic behind him.
Yeah...it looks like this guy has conclusively demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as a federal judge. Probably never should have been appointed in the first place. Not only should he resign his judgeship in disgrace, but he should be stripped of any federal retirement benefits.
or removed from the bench.
when somebody in the military has criticized a sitting ‘RAT president, you better believe the ‘RATS have turned the DOD against them to punish them or force them into early retirement.
it’s high time that we do the same to the ‘RATS.
A federal judge who doesn’t obey the law because he is a rabid Democrat partisan. No doubt he is lobbying to be the first Clinton pick for the Supreme Court.
