That Donkey as the symbol of the Dimocrats wasn't around during the days of slavery.

1870s to the 1960s though were the era of Democrat Jim Crow laws though... (and ALL Jim Crow Laws, REQUIRING open discrimination against blacks, were passed by Democrats).

So is Louie saying that if he’d been around 150 years ago he’d be a Republican?

I don’t know, but he could at least be a lurker. Or maybe a ‘great minds’ thing.

A lot of politicians (or at least their staffers) monitor FR. Most stay away from posting because of the rudeness and low-information memes that are too popular. Plenty of professional writers and commentators lurk here too.

The First use of the Donkey as a symbol of the Democrat Party was in 1837. However it was Who Popularized the Donkey as the Democrat symbol.

BTW, Nast was by no means a friend to the Democrats. Neither was Mr. Grigsby it would appear by reading his tombstone.

Apparently the Democrats never were much good and they are worse now.

(September 27, 1840 – December 7, 1902) was a German-born American caricaturist and editorial cartoonist considered to be the "Father of the American Cartoon". He was the scourge of Democratic Representative "Boss" Tweed and the Tammany Hall Democratic party political machine. Among his notable works were the creation of the modern version of Santa Claus and the political symbol of the elephant for the Republican Party. Contrary to popular belief, Nast did not create Uncle Sam (the male personification of the American people), Columbia (the female personification of American values), or the Democratic donkey, though he did popularize these symbols through his art. Nast was associated with the magazine Harper's Weekly from 1859 to 1860 and from 1862 until 1886.

Albert Boime argues that:

As a political cartoonist, Thomas Nast wielded more influence than any other artist of the 19th century. He not only enthralled a vast audience with boldness and wit, but swayed it time and again to his personal position on the strength of his visual imagination. Both Lincoln and Grant acknowledged his effectiveness in their behalf, and as a crusading civil reformer he helped destroy the corrupt Tweed Ring that swindled New York City of millions of dollars. Indeed, his impact on American public life was formidable enough to profoundly affect the outcome of every presidential election during the period 1864 to 1884.

I believe the DimocRATS always were and still are the party of slavery.

AND, TO THIS DAY, dim-0s and other white supremist types are the ONLY people who think that blacks are SO INFERIOR as to need a head start, affirmative action, to achieve what other races do.

IF that aint racist, I need to word defined for me.

You think the south is rife with bigots and anti Semites

Noted

They’ll come for your history next

Whatever that is

This just emboldens them
