Actually Grant/Sherman defeated Bragg at Missionary Ridge, leading to Bragg’s removal. Hood was (newly) in command (took over from Johnston) when Atlanta was lost.

thank you. I had a mind fart in trying to recall what I had proposed a week or so ago when the “why are Army forts named after Confederate generals” broke out. Ft. Pickett becomes Ft Hancock. Ft. AP Hill becomes Ft. Buford, and there were more.
