TBT: Cruz, Toomey file amendment to give Congress more power over Obama’s Iran deal
Ted Cruz Senate Office ^ | April 24, 2015 | Ted Cruz

As currently written, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 would first require Congress to pass a resolution of disapproval and then require Congress to muster votes from two-thirds of each chamber to override a Presidential veto. What's more, if Congress failed to act within a set timeframe, the deal would go into effect by default. This process gets the Constitution's allocation of authority precisely backwards.

Don't blame the entire Republican Senate. Blame McConnell (who Trump supported in 2014)

I thought that only Congress could ratify treaties, not the President.

Blame the whole Republican Party. McConnell and Boehner are still in leadership roles. In both chambers, enough people were elected as constitutional conservatives to stop that from happening.

The GOP has to have the balls to stand in the way of the political inertia of this disaster to begin with.

It should have been recognized as a Treaty rather than a “deal”.

McConnell and Boehner will fight this. They have repeatedly colluded with the Democrats. They Have Given Us Zero Representation. They crossed over. They have been to the bathhouse with Obama and they’re not coming back.

A lot of Republicans supported McConnell. Hell, he won big. Many of us were fooled again.

What kills me is that McConnell, Boehner, and company are so openly in the bag with Obama at this point. It seems like it is fashionable to be a traitor amongst our Republican leaders.

Not with this dictator King. He crushed both the House and Senate and if they do not cooperate he will regulate using committees.

The Senate, but yeah.

I'll have to think about whether or not this is a treaty. I'm thinking things like ABM traty, non-proliferation treaty, NAFTA, etc, where there is some bilateral dealing.

Compared with the no-fly zone (around Iraq) and other activities that are a show of military force and will.

That said, the legislation to allow the president to act in a "persistent" way, on 35% approval in Congress, was really stupid.

Problem being that McConnell and his minions negated the treaty in favor of an executive agreement

Too broad a brush. Give credit where it is due. Toomey and Cruz tried to make an amendment to rectify the situation.

They didn’t.

The Corker deal was already accepted beforehand. Cruz voted against the initial Corker deal too.

Obama was going to unilaterally work the sanctions down as a trade deal with executive action if he was not given a compromise on how to push a treaty through the Senate. McConnell caved with conservatives opposing the legislative deal six months ago.

It is a executive agreement. McConnell and Corker nixed the treaty.

Just last April, in the dead of night , Corker ,McConnell ,Cornyn, Hatch and other RINO’s teamed with Obama Demorats to abrogate the Constitutional requirement of 2/3 Senate approval of all treaties. This is a treaty with Iran— pure and simple. Instead of the Constitutional mandate for a ratified treaty, these traitors to the Republican party and to the Constitution changed the constitutional formula to-— guess what? 1/3 ratification. !!!! You can't make this up!! After 60 days, the Senate votes. If the vote is against this total capitulation it goes to the Dictator for VETO!!! Then the Senate but over ride the VETO!! WITH 67 VOTES!!! UNCONSTITUTIONAL PER SE!! Give these bastard unmitigated hell by phone, fax email and personal office visit. How did this happen — but more to the issue WHY?
