The cops will be so much safer and tey’ll certainly all go home at night, as its their #1 priority over everything else.

Yes, I did. The would-be-burglar and his partner/driver DID escape my property that day because I was not willing to shoot them as they fled.
However, my descriptions of the men and their van helped local police track them down and arrest them. They were part of a residential burglary ring that had operated for several months in the area I was living at the time. They would “case” houses over the course of several days and then choose a “break-in” time based on when it appeared no one was home.
They had apparently targeted us and noted our work schedules. However, what they did not know on the particular Tuesday they decided to hit my house was that I was actually home. I had been involved in a fairly serious motorcycle racing accident the previous weekend, and I had been instructed to take a couple days off work due to a concussion, and broken wrist, foot and T4 vertebrae.
My wife was at work, so her car was gone. My truck was not there because we had left it at the race track when I was hauled away in an ambulance the previous Saturday, and had not made it back out there to pick it up. I guess they noticed both vehicles missing and assumed neither of us was home.
Perhaps the funniest thing about the whole event is that at the time I stepped out on my deck with the gun and startled the burglar, my left leg was in a walking cast, I had a cast on my left arm, I was walking/shuffling very stiffly due to the pain in my spine, and the whites of BOTH my eyes were a bright, brilliant RED color. I looked like some kind of mutant zombie, and when that dude looked up and saw me and that very large revolver, I’ll bet he thought he was facing evil incarnate. In any event, he wasted no time running down my driveway to the van screaming to his friend the whole way.
Overall, the whole incident was kind of entertaining, and it provided a brief respite from the pain I was in at the time.
