LOS ANGELES (AP) — The family of an unarmed man fatally shot by police in suburban Los Angeles called for a federal civil rights investigation into the police department involved Wednesday, saying newly released video of the shooting raises significant questions.

Newly released videos of the shooting show Diaz-Zeferino with his palms open at waist level when officers shoot him eight times. A second man who had his hands up, Eutiquio Acevedo-Mendez, survived a gunshot wound to the back.

I bet when it's all said & done, Eutiquio Acevedo-Mendez is going to be a wealthy man thanks to a large settlement using taxpayers' money.

What were those cops thinking?

I guess he should have kept his hands up.

Anyone know what these two were being ‘arrested’ for ?

Where are the training records for these “officers of the law” that show they took courses in use of a taser, dealing with drunken individuals, or for that matter their resumes showing their college courses in psychology.

I just don’t see any reason they would open fire on two individuals. No one even attempted to anything other than yell at them to get their hands up. Where was the stolen bicycle in relation to their position? The cops appeared to simply get out of their cars, yell at them and then shoot them.

I hope they enjoy prison...

The victims were the ones who called the cops about a stolen bike.

The suspect in the dark shirt brought his hands down to his pockets or waist FOUR times while being ordered to keep his hands up over and over. He clearly appeared to be a threat and the cops easily could have shot him the first 3 times he did it and been justified, but used restraint. He caused his own death.

It called the 'Old Mexican Hat Trick', with his left hand he drops his hat to conceal what he is doing with his right hand. Its a timeless tactic going back centuries.

As far as the cops knew they were responding to an urgent robbery call, which could have involved weapons. The dispatcher screwed up when sending out the call.

The one idiot suspect kept going for his waist and pockets, a total of 4 times. If he had kept his illegal alien hands up, the situation would have been resolved peacefully.

Dur to a dispatchers error the cops thought they were responding to a robbery and possibly an armed robbery.

Obviously you have not read the story as it is a documented fact that the dispatcher screwed up.

Regardless of that, if a suspect is ordered to keep his hands in the air, at gunpoint, but instead keeps dropping them to his waist area, he is making himself appear to be a threat and is begging to be shot.

The video linked here shows what can happen to cops who allow suspects to go for their waist and pockets.

I’m sorry about the death but this person did not keep the hands up and kept going for his waste several times.

They may want to make political examples of these officers but if they are supposed to shoot if threatened by moves during arrests then there is no cause here.

Maybe the tradgedy is more about the suspects “no habla ingles” than anything else.
