That’s an interesting location for a fire watch tower. There doesn’t seem to be any forest for miles around.

Shhhh . . . you didn't see that.
There was an accident and an ammo dump south of Albuquerque blew up - but no one was hurt. Nothing to see here, move on.

Might have been a lava geyser.

But keep your windows closed if you were downwind. Oh, and wash your car.

The sight and sounds of American ships bombarding Japan proper had to cause Japanese citizens in coastal areas to ask where their fleet was?

200,000 Poles sentenced to death for collaboration? Never heard of this before. Maybe they were sent to gulags instead of firing squads?

At this point, the Japanese must know how defenseless they are. Sure, the kempetei, or secret police, are trying to tamp down on defeatism, but you can't stop word of mouth communication.

It’s been a while since I’ve looked at the numbers, but I seem to recall that if you were a Polish Jew, you were a lot more likely to be killed by the Nazis than by the Soviets.
If you were a Catholic Pole, your chances were about equal as to being killed by the Nazis and the Reds.

A minor point, but the device in the Trinity test was not called Fat Man, it was "The Gadget." Fat Man was, of course, the Nagasaki bomb. The design was called the Mark III, of which over 100 were eventually produced.
The next US bomb design was the safer Mark IV, which entered service in 1949. It was mass produced at the AEC facility at the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown, Iowa; where my mother worked.
